“It is poor race planning to have a 2 mile hurdle race due off 10 minutes before the Derby and another race due off 7 minutes after Epsom.”
Spot on.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 5, 2022 at 09:44 #1600714It’s simple , before the likes of the National , Derby , Cheltenham GC there should be no race 30 mins before …. Let everyone enjoy the build up , pointless having a 3k hurdle at Hexham before the GC …no ones watching

How I tend to get through Royal Ascot on ITV.
Dreading how many ‘presenters’ they are going to turn up with at the meeting.
*wonder if I should send over a bottle?*
Now footie or racing?
good luck to allJune 5, 2022 at 20:00 #1600820Jane Mangan said on RTV today that there should be a 20 minute window either side of the Derby to avoid clashes and to give the race the centre of attention it deserves.
Of course, the chances of the BHA and the Irish authorities implementing such an eminently sensible idea are absolute zero.
June 6, 2022 at 11:19 #1600879I always thought there was (didn’t there used to be?) a window, before and after the National/ Derby.
As for ITV, far too many ‘presenters’ – Why? They’re simply not needed. And while I like Ed, I do think he tries too hard to be positive, and ‘sell the sport’. I’m sure he’s defended this view, but it can be somewhat overbearing at times.
June 6, 2022 at 11:54 #1600882Just received the usual weekly email from RTV about the upcoming week’s racing highlights.
It began by saying it hoped I enjoyed their coverage of the Derby. I have replied to say I would have done but I watched it on ITV instead because I did not want to watch it on a split screen.
I hope a few other people do as well!

June 16, 2022 at 14:21 #1602463Join the mute-ineers!
June 16, 2022 at 14:33 #1602466Would not have mattered it was a caption.
June 16, 2022 at 15:40 #1602502It’s getting to the stage where the mute button alone is not enough.
You don’t have to actually be able to hear what they’re saying to just know from the screen images between races that it’s drivel even pondlife would sneer at.
The BBC used to wheel out Judith Chalmers between races to do the fashion.
That was boring but at least the overall broadcast was still primarily about racing.
Is that any longer the case?
I’m considering upping my game from mute to switching the TV off altogether until post time then off again once they’ve passed the post.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 16, 2022 at 16:40 #1602533Actually, I’m enjoying Steve Cauthen’s commentary and analysis. How often do we have an opportunity to experience such a moment?…
June 16, 2022 at 17:14 #1602551Had to laugh when in true ITV style,Ed suggested we needed celebrity’s in the royal procession to make it more interesting.
June 16, 2022 at 17:18 #1602552Agree Turkoman. Great jockeys don’t necessarily make good presenters but I was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully they’ll nab him for the Breeders’ Cup. For all the criticism he’s received on this forum, Rishi seems to get some worthwhile comments out of Ryan Moore too (where so many have failed).
I have no interest in fashion but have always accepted that it’s part of Royal Ascot, indeed friends with no interest in racing watch it for that reason, or at least used to. I doubt very much if they are enjoying this though as it’s almost exclusively devoted to drinking & “celebrities”. Aside from “you look great” (all of them, even if they obviously don’t), there’s bog all reference to fashion.
June 16, 2022 at 17:49 #1602564They should bring back that fellow who used to commentate on the fashion for the BBC. He used to make amusingly caustic comments about outfits he did not like.
June 16, 2022 at 18:04 #1602566Oh, yes what was his name? Weren’t there complaints about him?
I’m sure on the old BBC coverage they had Jeff (she looks stunning!) Banks, and am I imagining Miriam Francome was involved as well?June 16, 2022 at 18:13 #1602572Yes, Miriam Francome was involved – much to Julian Wilson’s undisguised delight.
Nowadays, I suppose it would be too difficult for broadcasters to use the fellow who made the caustic comments. Someone on the receiving end might take offence, which would make the television executives nervous.
June 16, 2022 at 19:34 #1602584Noticeable they’ve been keeping Chapman out of things in general. Apart from the Opening Show, not on at all on Tuesday, sound only occasionally on Wednesday and used very sparingly on Thursday. It’s been better for the lack of Chapman, the big negative though has been Rishi and his inane questioning of the winning jockeys and trainers.
