    Nathan mentioned on the telly?

I want your autograph when we finally meet, Nathan (though mainly so I can use it to forge bank cheques).

Nathan do you have that teacloth with all the racecourses in the UK named on it and all the jockey silks round the border.
If you win any comps on here by Champions Day I’ll send you one.
    :rose: Jac
By the way well done. :good:

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by Mark Johnson and his “They’re in the gate” before every flat race?

    Please make it stop.

Chapman: “Arguably one of the greatest fields we’ve seen”

I was at Salisbury this evening.

And when you’re at the races the mute button doesn’t work on the tannoy.

    And guess who was commentating.

    PAIN.

100% agree – there is a distinction between a high-quality renewal and a competitive renewal.

Mark Johnson brought that “They’re in the gate” b/s back after his stint commentating in the US – he should have stayed there with that and his other Americanisms (3 eights of a mile, sitting chilly, gate to wire etc) along with his shouting commentary.

This year’s King George field was representative but not remotely classed as one of the greatest ever seen – 1987’s field with a huge array of multiple G1 winners would be high on that particular list:

Reference Point (Futurity & Derby winner)
Triptych (5 time previous G1 winner, including that season Prix Ganay & Coronation Cup, she also went on to win that year’s Juddmonte & both the English and Irish Champion Stakes and the 1988 Coronation Cup)
Unite (Oaks and Irish Oaks winner)
    Sir Harry Lewis (Irish Derby)
Moon Madness (St Leger & Grand Prix de Saint Cloud winner)
Tony Bin (5 time Italian G1 winner and 1988 Arc winner)
Acatenango (6 time German G1 winner & Grand Prix de Saint Cloud winner)

We have a wire to wire winner.

I think this is what I have heard most frequently on the American commentaries. The guy that rolls his rrr’s certainly builds up the atmosphere. Strange to say I am used to and rather like the American way. They are shorter races they build the atmosphere gradually and in the final quarter they spurt into a crescendo of high pitch almost out of control euphoria.

I know this isn’t about ITV, but it is about commentators. I
think it’s just me and Moe that are daft enough to sit up for
“the race that stops a nation”, the Melbourne Cup which is on
about 4.00am. It’s not simply the race, I’ve read on here some
people just don’t get it, and that’s fair enough, its the Ozzy
pair (I can’t remember the radio channel at the moment) but I’ve
laughed till I nearly cried, they should have their own show.
Maybe they do?. I could watch it on the Racing Channel, but it
doesn’t come near the entertainment. How I wish we had something
in comparison here. Chappers and Harvey, I think not.

It was a cracking King George (backing the winner helped!) and as per usual I watched on my phone on mute on a betting app.

But I was on Twitter later on and saw a clip of Matt Chapman running after Ryan Moore.

I found it utter “cringe” and, for the millionth time, asked myself: “Why does any racing fan endure this inane drivel? Just watch the races!”

I find it very awkward when they try and get comments from the beaten jockeys.

Although ITV having showing racing for almost 7 years,Saturday came across as if it was they’ve never done it before.York race shoved in before The King George, time wasted on interviews instead of showing the horses live in the parade ring.recorded shows of them and missing the parade and then rushing off air with no time to review the race.
Can’t believe they go home thinking they’ve done a good job.
