Thanks Matron, but it’s working fine today for the first time in weeks
It’s gone back to having to be refreshed all the time
November 11, 2015 at 08:06 #1221153I don’t think it is the site.
Are you on fibre or an ADSL connection?
November 11, 2015 at 08:22 #1221154When I was contributing under my original alter-ego ‘Bosranic’, this site was a bustling metropolis of well informed characters and diverse opinions. Some posters were borderline arrogant, others just playful, while the range of experience and knowledge varied. When you amalgamated this with the diverse, individual approaches to the sport, it made TRF the best forum on the horse racing circuit.
I remember those days too ‘Bos’.I was one of those posters you mention above,we just wont mention which.I think we should all put up all the alter-ego names in a list so we can identify those who have changed their names..I did wonder when you mentioned ‘Calg’ the other day
TAPK formerly known as the artist ‘Oh So Sharp’ and the legendary Poster of the year ‘Kingfisher’
November 11, 2015 at 09:45 #1221158I don’t come on often enough admittedly, but do have a browse almost every day.
I think it’s a great forum, well run (must take a lot of work so fair play) and thoroughly enjoy reading peoples opinions. Some are informed, knowledgeable and objective, others argumentative, some playful, but generally a shared love for horseracing, having a punt, and picking a few winners. Isn’t this what the game is all about if you’re not involved in a horse or stable yourself?
The more posters the merrier I say, I read all the opinions, don’t agree with all of them but read them nonetheless, so keep them all coming please.November 11, 2015 at 13:47 #1221192I don’t think it is the site.

Fibre. Think I’ve sorted it now, had two anti virus programs having a tussle with each other so got rid of one. Cheers.

I used to post as Peruvian Chief.

November 11, 2015 at 18:50 #1221222I don’t post anywhere near as often on the “Horse Racing” section these days, started putting opinions on my DLAP thread instead. Mainly because some seem to regard it as a place to give opinions without anyone else having the right to voice a different opinion. This is a discussion board! Also, TRFers criticising (in the strongest of terms) people within racing should expect (if others believe it not warrented) strong criticism in return. Seems some expect one rule for one and one for another. imo Those not on this forum deserve to be defended when wrongly accused – just as much, if not more than any TRFer.
TRFers claiming the impossibe should expect scepticism/to be found out.
Glad Mike has made a reappearance and Alan came back a few months ago. Be nice if Cav and Bos (Robin) posted more and where’s Jeremy these days? “Intelligent horse racing discussion” is more difficult to find. That said, this forum is still a good read.
Do think needs to be a few changes. When there were many voices then a “Big Race” section was needed; now needs to return, merge with “Horse Racing” together with “Royal Ascot” and “Cheltenham”. I’d also merge all three tipping sub-sections in to one “Tipping and Research”. Rarely look in to “Trends, research and Notebooks”, and yet things like North’s Notes deserve far more views.

Sorry TTC, but truth is there’s fewer people on here that actually know what they’re on about these days.

November 11, 2015 at 19:58 #1221234Hi Ginger,
You know I love you dearly and am an admirer of your value betting strategy but can I suggest a contributory factor to the decline of the ‘Horse Racing’ section were your interminable spats with that other serial poster Stevecaution and your regualr pissing-off of others; which has started again now with The Tatling Cheekily
Now that the gossamer-skinned SC has gone and you’re largely restricting yourself to DLAP’s perhaps there’ll be more action here
Speaking personally I’ve never been interested in discussing individual races and ‘who’s gonna win’, preferring banter with wordsmiths on racing’s hinterland and apres-ski
Most of the erudite, free-thinking, wistful, whimsical, humorous posters have gone, where I don’t know: Trite Twitter hardly seems likely and Facebook is not really the platform on which to publish an essay
Perhaps, like me, they’ve all got bored trying to proffer a cure for racing’s ills as the old lady seems as sick to me as she ever was
Good to know that Mike Large, considering his well-publicised kidney problems, is alive, well and hopefully still enjoying 0-90 staying chases at Warwick. A fine erudite banterist
November 11, 2015 at 20:09 #1221236For the record – I am not p’d off. I consider GT a far more knowledgeable poster than myself, just making the point that a forum is a forum, and I don’t think sneering (even if completely unintentional) at others less knowledgable is condusive to a successful forum.
This forum is the best, I love the fact SC,s post has in effect morphed in to a rallying cry. People like GT make it so, but we can’t all know as much.

Am just lamenting the loss of a lot of those who used to post on here. And it stands to reason there’s only a certain amount of knowledgeable racing people in the forumsphere. Therefore, harder to find intelligent conversation.
Not that am “sneering” at anyone. We were all learner drivers once and try to help anyone who wants/asks.
I realised you were not “p’d off” at me, even if Drone didn’t.
Value Is EverythingNovember 11, 2015 at 20:42 #1221243You’re a hypocrite Mark.
You bang on when others rake up the past on here, saying that you forget and move on yet you always do the same yourself.Blackbeard to conquer the World
November 11, 2015 at 20:49 #1221245Well crack on posting and stop moaning then fella. I’ve no intention of using social bloody media, so in a pathetic-electronic-technophobe fashion we all have a duty to make it work.

November 11, 2015 at 21:36 #1221248While only an occasional poster anyway, by my standards I have been very quiet this year. Growing family, busy workload etc… means that I’ve been purely an observer for most of the summer (certainly since June anyway).
Seems that the OP has suddenly burst the forum back into life – acting as a rallying call for all that ride the good ship TRF.
Unless it’s the jump season proper warming up…..
Keep up the good work!

You bang on when others rake up the past on here, saying that you forget and move on yet you always do the same yourself.I have not mentioned anyone Nathan, am not raking up the past; not me. Some have made similar comments to mine. All am doing is saying why I do not use the Horse Racing section (or Big Race discussions) as often and the type of things I personally do not like. Knowing “others” do not want me to come on here also means do not use it as often. Could’ve contributed to threads or started them, but persuaded not to and (if you and Drone are correct) hopefully that has encouraged others to get involved.
