Well Gladders, you’ve been around longer than I have, so apart from Dessie, Best Mate, Kauto and Denman what else was in GDC’s league or even better?
February 1, 2025 at 15:49 #1719456Err Golden Miller and Dawn run ..
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 1, 2025 at 15:51 #1719457Premature discussion. He has to win the 3rd Gold Cup first.
February 1, 2025 at 15:51 #1719458What a horse.
I still think they’ve put the 3rd Gold Cup at risk though with this busy campaign.
I’d be worried about Gerri Colombe who’ll be going there a fresh horse. Was only 3.5L between them last year.
February 1, 2025 at 15:51 #1719459“He’s better than Denman”
Agreed.
Ruby: Best Mate doesn’t belong in that group, as he beat nothing of any note.
I’d have Kauto, Dessie and Carvill’s Hill definitely ahead of Galopin, with both Burrough Hill Lad and Captain Christy roughly alongside him.
February 1, 2025 at 15:53 #1719460Is Gerri going to be there , I’d really question him going without a proper prep , GDC looking rock solid unless something goes wrong

He thrives on his racing rather than hiding between Xmas and March so not too worried about that.
February 1, 2025 at 15:55 #1719462He,s not better than Denman , give me a piece of form akin to Denman destroying Kauto
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 1, 2025 at 15:55 #1719463I also agree that he’s better than Denman.
February 1, 2025 at 15:56 #1719464I don’t know about Dawn Run. I think he’s achieved more than she did, though she surely had the potential of becoming a multiple GC winner. Though one to compare the two of them.

Kauto wasn’t right that day and still ran a cracker. Also, the ground had totally gone against him.
Denman was a Great horse but Kauto was the horse of a lifetime.
February 1, 2025 at 15:58 #1719466HDLG, Kauto obviously ran below his best that day. Unless you genuinely believe he was only a short head better horse than Neptune Collonges, that is.
February 1, 2025 at 16:01 #1719467What was wrong with Kauto GM , you haven’t answered my question asking which bit of GDC form is akin to Denmans GC , sadly GDC hasn’t had a worthy competitor akin to the Nicholls horses , he’s a great horse ….but not Denman
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 1, 2025 at 16:03 #1719469That GC was far superior to any of GDC s , come on guys I get you love the horse but the form isn’t there to back up what your saying
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 1, 2025 at 16:10 #1719471Great horse, great race coming into the last fence.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 1, 2025 at 16:11 #1719473“What was wrong with Kauto GM”
The fact that he only beat Neptune Collonges a short head. Denman’s gold cup was a superb performance – as was his 2nd Hennessy- but Galopin stays just as well as him and is a bit classier.
February 1, 2025 at 16:13 #1719474HDLG,it was plain to be seen he wasn’t right and jumped with nowhere near his normal fluency.
He also went and got beaten at Aintree a few weeks later again showing he wasn’t his usual brilliant self.I don’t rate Denmans Gold Cup performance anywhere near what some do due to the fact that Kauto was a shadow of himself on the day.
He only won the Lexus by 4L to Mossbank with an 11yr old Beef or Salmon only 5L away. A prime Beef or Salmon would have beaten him around there.
Gallopin Des Champs 23L beating of Gerri Colombe in the Savills is better than any run of Denmans.
Again, I still think Denman was great. I just think Kauto and now Gallopin also, were/are greater.
