This horse better than the lot of ’em. Debate over
February 1, 2025 at 16:17 #1719477The fact you are putting forward his beating of Gerri as the best piece of form backs what I’m saying , Gerri isn’t remotely a top staying chaser in the class of the horses we are talking about , even if you believe Kauto wasn’t 100% ( nothing factual backs this ) a 80% Kauto to is better than a 100% Gerri ….No ?

February 1, 2025 at 16:20 #1719479You’ve started in now Mike … Mr Ed ain’t no trigger ..

February 1, 2025 at 16:21 #1719480He still beat him 23L and was given a RPR equal to Denmans best.
Gerri Colombe is good enough to understand beating him by 23L is a bit special.
February 1, 2025 at 16:30 #1719482Lol GM how far was Gerri beaten last time …13.5 lengths , is Envoi Allen one of the best chasers of all time .. … Sadly while I respect your view the formbook doesn’t back it up , Gerri is a good stayer but Jesus he just beat Ahoy Senor at Aintree , the form book never lies

February 1, 2025 at 16:36 #1719483For God sake man, he was found to be wrong after the race and hasn’t been seen since.
February 1, 2025 at 16:36 #1719484Mr Ed and Trigger didn’t have a cool theme tune- Champion The Wonder Horse beats all.
February 1, 2025 at 16:38 #1719485“the form book never lies”
but you can cherry pick it to suit yourself.
February 1, 2025 at 16:41 #1719486What about this big black one?
Value Is EverythingFebruary 1, 2025 at 16:43 #1719487GM stay calm , is Gerri better than a 80% Kauto .. again nothing to show Kauto was wrong at Cheltenham , backed by him running at Aintree , if you watch that GC Sam got Denman into such a rythem that everything struggled , Gerri is a decent horse as I’ve said but we are talking about 2 different classes of horse

February 1, 2025 at 16:45 #1719488Outside of Flyingbolt (who’s exploits you could argue were even more impressive than Arkle), Dessie for me has been the best since Arkle.
He won at all trips (2m to 3m 5f), all ground (good to firm through to heavy), winning under big welter weights (conceeding massive weights all round) and danced every dance and didn’t dodge anyone. I value that type of versatility in a horse a bit more than those that keep to winning level weights races that greatly favour them.
In one season Dessie won:
Terry Biddlecombe (2m5f good ground)
Tingle Creek (2m good ground, carrying 12st top weight conceeding between 18lbs-28lbs to his rivals),
King George (3m good to firm ground!! – yes shocking I know, how could they allow it),
Victory Chandler aka Clarence House (2m good ground, carrying 12st top weight conceeding between 22lbs-28lbs to his rivals),
Gainsborough Chase (3m good ground, carrying 12st top weight conceeding between 7lbs-18lbs)
Gold Cup (3m2f heavy ground)
Then went on to fall at Aintree in his 7th run of the season!Weight carrying performances are the reasons that Denman (his two Hennessy wins under top weight of 11st 12lbs) resonated more with me than Kauto Star even though the later was clearly the better and more versatile racehorse.
Burrough Hill Lad (who also won a Hennessy but under 12st) along with a Welsh National, a King George & a Gold Cup is a horse that (to me anyway) doesn’t get the full recognition he deserves and had it not been for leg problems that forced him to miss the 85 and 86 Gold Cup’s, I do think he could have become the first triple Gold Cup winner since Arkle.
That being said, I would totally agree with Ruby in that GDC is the best Ireland have seen since Arkle. Surely he will have to underperform not to make it the 3 in March.
February 1, 2025 at 16:45 #1719489Ohhh Ginge that’s a spanner in the works , hang on I’ve got the winner .. rumour is Mike cashed out when he found out Taylor was down to ride
