I am not sure Kemboy should be used as a form yardstick. He is an in and out performer.

Conflated won well yesterday – and I was obviously happy with that! However, I do not see him as a Gold Cup contender. With doubts at the head of the market, yesterday was his big chance and he took it. But I do not think 3m 2f around Cheltenham will suit him and the opposition will be stronger.

APT will win the Gold Cup if he runs like he did at Haydock but he was underwhelming in the 2020 Ryanair and his jumping was a bit sticky in last year’s Gold Cup.

I am on Minella Indo at 10/1 and Al Boum Photo at 16/1. The trends may be against them but they have been there and done it. I honestly believe Minella Indo will leave this form behind at Cheltenham.

Al boum is the forgotten horse , while he may not win he,s rock solid e.w esp with the firms who,ll pay 4 places , he,ll get round and loves the hill

“Got to disagree , if you watch the race he isn’t making any ground at the end , Galvin’s form in beating APT is a lot stronger than this”.

Galvin is obviously a danger for the blue ribbon if able to improve again, HDLG. Although APT was below his best that day after only around 5 weeks off. He’s pretty much proven best fresh with at least 50 days off. Minella’s Cheltenham Gold Cup form is better than Galvin’s Savills Chase.

Am not too interested in whether Indo was or was not “making any ground at the end” on Conflated. Indo was below his best albeit a big step back in the right direction. We don’t need yesterday’s result to tell us Minella’s greatest assets are stamina and a love of Cheltenham. Furthest he’s been in his career is 3m2f110yrds of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and that remains his stand out performance. (Also won the 3m novice hurdle there and close 2nd in RSA). I did not expect Minella to be at his best yesterday in conditions (combined affect of track, distance and going) of a lesser stamina test. Fully expect him to improve on that come March… Especially if (as usual) HDB is in good form at that time of year.

Ginger in my eyes he hasn’t ran to GC form in any run this season , he maybe a Cheltenham horse or a spring horse but he,s a year older with the new youngsters biting at his hooves , I reckon Galvin is the new Minella

I’m confident, in fact make that Bullish (Nicholls-esque), that Minella Indo ran a perfect prep and will win the Gold Cup. For whatever reason he is a much better horse at Cheltenham. 10/1 was a gift after the King George.

Conflated was excellent yesterday but i agree that he is unlikely to appreciate the step up to 3m2f. Galvin the main danger but I’m not convinced he is good enough to beat a peak Minella Indo.

I agree Minella has not run to form this season, HDLG… and yes there are several new kids on the block. Minella possibly isn’t as good this time around, but is yet to have the same test of stamina and ran better in the Irish Gold Cup this year than last.
