I’m starting to feel a bit sorry for Fallon’s and the stick he’s getting on here , I’m very much a neutral on the subject, not a fan but I wouldn’t be put off backing one if he was on board.
I’d be interested to hear who you would put up on one of yours given a free choice?
For me it would be
FLAT Pat Smullen or Chrisophe Soumillion
NH Ruby walsh or Nina Carberry…or maybe Soumillion judging by the French Champ Hurdle
July 20, 2010 at 14:52 #307547Flat – Jim Crowley or Maxime Guyon
Jumps – Paul Townend or Adam Wedge (for the 10lbs off)
July 20, 2010 at 14:54 #307550I rate Fallon but he’s had his day now mate.
Flat R L Moore
NH A P McCoyJuly 20, 2010 at 16:41 #307578Must admit i have always thought Fallon a tad over rated. But like CS wouldnt be put off if he was on one of mine.
July 20, 2010 at 18:35 #307601Depends if I wanted to back the horse or not.
If I did, then it’s best not to put a recognised top jockey aboard.Cathy Gannon, Seb Sanders or Richard Hills on the flat. They don’t seem to have the following of some, and some punters make a purpose of not backing them.
Rhys Flint, Noel Fehily or Aidan Coleman over jumps. Would’ve said any one of the Pipe conditionals, only don’t want Nicholshane to get wind of the betting coup.
If all I want as an owner is a winner:
Ryan Moore, Fallon or Hughes.
Trouble with Dettori is if it is not going to win, he is a little too easy on them for my liking.
Few years ago I was very much anti-Hughes. But now, I think he gets them further on the bridle than anyone else, therefore they don’t seem to find as much off it.Over jumps:
NHF flat or Hurdles AP McCoy
Chases Barry Gerraghty
Ruby Walsh an obvious alternative.
These three above anyone else.Value Is EverythingJuly 20, 2010 at 19:02 #307608Flat: Pat Smullen
NHF: Mikey Fogarty
Jumps: Davy Russell

These three above anyone else.I wasn’t aware punters avoided Seb Saunders, he need their heads looking at, fabulous jockey, very under-rated.
I also agree with your rating of Richard Hughes, superb rider.Venetia Williams is a master(ess) at finding new talent, Aiden Coleman rode a great double for me last week, two photo finishes, one on a horse that was 20 lengths behind two out and had been dropped by the leader but he kept nudging away until he got the horse going again, I, for one, was very impressed
July 20, 2010 at 22:49 #307659Flat – J Murtagh or C Soumillion
Jumps – AP McCoy or J McGuireJuly 21, 2010 at 07:25 #307680OK… Fallon has his quirks and Timeform would definetly give hime a squiggle but suggestions that he’s anything other than a top jockey are wide of the mark. Its all about ammunition. Could anyone on here even remotely suggest that he would not have won on Snow Fairy on Sunday or Workforce at Epsom. And on the subject of his speed. He’s
always
been a tad slow in pulling his stick through to his left hand but he makes up for it by being one of the strongest finishers in the game. He’s also one of the shrewdest judges of a thouroughbred there is.He would be on one of mine any day. If push comes to shove and if not Fllon, then who ?.

I think it was Fiery lad on oaks day, the race before the oaks. Backed it at 14/1 and the horse was all over the place and pulling. Fallon won when not many jockeys could’ve. If you can watch it, you’ll be impressed.
August 11, 2010 at 16:24 #312261Adam Wedge (for the 10lbs off)

Good call.
I’m half tempted to add Gina Andrews as well. Can’t think of too many of her winning rides for Pam Sly that have been absolutely mown into beforehand, despite her knowledge of the yard’s horses she’s regularly kept on and a "busy hands" style that some animals just seem to get on with well.

August 11, 2010 at 17:11 #312270Yeah I like Gina too – mainly against the pro’s as you know you’re going to get a top ride and she’ll be on a decent horse too when riding for Pam Sly. Plenty of big priced winners and placers.
Her sisters none too shabby either – though still relatively inexperienced even in the lady riders flat races which she’s ridden well in thus far.
Fallon rode a treble at Salisbury today too – it’s not that I’m anti-Fallon generally just that he’s so in and out that you wouldn’t know it was the same jockey from one day to the next.

As you know from Jumping for Fun, I am a big fan of Adam’s and I do hope he goes on to a highly successful career. I’d also include the up and coming amateur John Mathias who travelled far and wide for rides last pointing season and is making a name under rules. Finally, whilst agreeing with Gina Andrews, you forgot to mentioned the underrated Isobel Tompsett who I think is really stylish.
August 11, 2010 at 22:39 #312319Fallon is king !!.I don’t like to slag jockeys off.I wonder sometimes if they are crap or have been told to ride it in a certain way.I’ve never been on a horse and I can only guess how hard it is to race ride.
I think Ian mongan is under rated ,most are over rated, very 2 dimensional in the way they ride.Looking through the form tonight I can see horses that need holding up that you know wont be cause they have a pace chaser on board. How hard would it be if all the jockeys were switched on to change a race?August 12, 2010 at 00:39 #312326murtaghs positional skills, fallons judge of pace and horse settling skills and jimmy fortunes strong finish. all rolled into one, thats who my stable jockey would be lol.
August 12, 2010 at 00:57 #312327Flat: Tom Queally reminds me of Kinane, in that he seems to give everything he sits on the best chance of winning, so Tom’s my first choice.
Jumps: Ruby’s 5lb better than anyone, for me.
In his absence (which is likely!) Jimmy Derhams five pound claim always comes into consideration.
