I’ve always liked reading Ian’s views. Always up with the pace and giving the forum food for thought with his many threads and opinions. The comical rivalry he generated with Nathan often brought a smile to my face.

All things considered, I think that banning Ian is a tad harsh.

Wish you all the best in life Ian 👍

The quality of mercy is not strain’d.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.
‘Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes
The thronèd monarch better than his crown.
His scepter shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty
    Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptered sway.

Was that Macbeth or Gamble

What I ask of forum members/contributors, in light of that, is that they respect the forum, other forum members and also those who run it, including myself – even if they disagree (or even disagree strongly) with them.

I totally agree with the above, respect the people behind the running of the forum, especially if you disagree with the point in question, and your fellow members.

Although my imagination seems limited in what ID said to cause this, sometimes people are passionate about their point of view. I know I was when Covid was such a hot topic.

The best things in life are free.
But you can give them to the birds and bees.

Whilst I always got on well with Ian and found his posts erudite and entertaining, I had noticed a change in the last couple of months. He had become even more self-centred and less self-deprecating than usual; I am only speculating here, but I wonder if something has happened in his life that has led to this change?

Either way, he was a valuable contributor to the community and will be missed. I wish him well.

Found the idea of this forum without Ian Davies as shocking as the news of him being banned. While not always seeing eye to eye with him on some topics/things his contributions will be missed as you could rely on a reasoned opinion which one may have agreed/disagreed with but was hard to ignore.
Whatever went on ‘out of view’ I hope a cooling off period will allow reflection by all concerned and a return to the status quo will in due course come about.Love him or hate him it’s hard to say the forum’s a better place without his postings.Hope you can read this as I miss your input and this absence is only temporary, can only echo Gladiateur’s sentiment in his closing line above.
    good luck to all

I think Gladders is spot on and I’m not going into further comments, but of course Ian will be missed.

Good posts by Gladiateur and Blackcountry Kid.

Ya know, with all the crap that’s going on all over the world right now, the banning of Ian seems just a farty act of coldness.

Forgiveness goes a long way in my book.

Bring Ian back for God’s sake!

Agree, Ghost. Maybe ID’s post in reply to Mr Cormack’s question about Cheltenham was a bit silly and uncalled for but I don’t see why their personal animosity should result in ID being banned for life from the forum. It is a bit of a disproportionate penalty.

It feels like when a soap opera kills off a character. It produces good headlines for a day or two. Then all you are left with is a lesser version of the show without one of the best characters.

Well it seems I’ve missed all the hoo-Ha since I was in Hospital. I’ve no
idea what was or wasn’t said but I’ll admit I’m astonished to hear that
Ian nae Chezza will no longer tread the boards of TRF. He was a master of
tongue in cheek, maybe some just didn’t get it. His constant quest for the
Poster of The Year, which I’ve no doubt he didn’t give a hoot about, was
nothing short of hilarious, as was his Macbeth style cunning plans to get
rid of Nathan, his arch enemy. His background in the newspaper empire gave
him a style of writing that could turn a rather beige subject into an
    erudite discussion.

I can’t take sides here because I don’t know the nuts and bolts of the spat,
I’ll just accept that it is what it is, but I have to say that I for one will
greatly miss Chezza, even with his cornering of the market of Hobnobs.

I hope that one day whatever the issue was will be water under the bridge.
I, and more importantly the forum will miss a genuine character, flaws and
all, (don’t we all have them) who you don’t get too many of.

Running this place must be a bit of a nightmare, I don’t envy David and I’m
not having a go at him, I don’t know the circunstances, but i have to say
that I will dearly miss Ian. I suppose his style of self-deprecating humour
just hit the spot with me. Life is strange. Take care of yourself Chezza,
    I’ll miss you :rose:

I’ve not commented on this thread until now , all I’ll say is I’ve enjoyed my interactions on here with Ian , we don’t always agree but that’s the point of a forum , it would be very dull if we did , I hope in the future he is able to rejoin us , a yearly highlight is of course Ian’s tongue in cheek attempt at poster of the year …. Good luck Ian , don’t lose the faith with CH ….. He’s practicing his Irish accent as we speak !!!

Chezza gone. What is the world coming to?
It’ll keep revolving and we’ll keep getting older. Clearly the old boy will be tuning in on a daily basis to see if anyone has written anything about him.
Media mogul ex exchange owner and self publicist, former ex forumite now returned to his previous former status. You’ve got to love him. I love him. Point to point enthuso, if there is such a word means he’s got lots else to do.
Waitrose will not be impressed as they’ll now have to mount their own advertising campaigns once again. Davies had cornered the market with his product placement of their extensive range of biscuits and there is a real chance that Hobnob producers will be obliged to issue a profit warning as early as next Tuesday.

It has got personal and he’s ‘crossed a line’ and even though he’s clearly done it ‘in camera’ he must have poked that stick too far. As David’s not likely to elaborate, speculation and assumption are the inaccurate tools to hand. I don’t think I’ve ever called “Corm” by his name before. maybe it is the new glasnost or maybe its that glasnost wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and we’re not all in this together after all.
I’m just glad that this particular thread is being permitted to run now and to do so longer than it’s intended lifespan as it can now provide a few answers, but maybe now more importantly be allowed to raise some questions, answers or not. Certainly deleting it would be taking censorship into the realms of absurdity over what essentially is a spat between two “boys” yes chaps that is all we are. And do you remember the old school masters who used to tell us the way they’d sort these squabbles out would be in the boxing ring with a pair of gloves? Well yes things have moved on, those old boys are long gone, and they were also compelled to stop hitting us and throwing their board rubbers at us….
Some of us, me included can use those most primitive of tools ( of speculation and mere heresay) perhaps to opine that one can bite one’s nose to spite one’s face, but what’s the point if you’re left with a left (or right)nostril missing?
I will miss his posts and Nathan coming in with Del Boy like timing with that JR Hartley meme was pure comedy classic and typified Ian’s ways and his blatant ways. in spite of himself he really seemed to love to be loved. But He also had enough of a self deprecating manner to poke fun at everyone including himself. Satire became him and he turned parts of the forum into sub sections of a newspaper particularly the lounge and his interjections on my own thread were most welcome indeed. The thought of Ian reading this (avidly)must be akin to hovering over one’s own wake. Bloody frustrating because you’d love to actually be there. But self gratifying all the same to hear everyone speak of you. (I’ve thought about that situation to the point of thinking about organising a premature one for myself!)
The permanent status of a ban seems a tad harsh though, especially as you have forumites reminiscing and saying it would be nice to see him back. You do get less for Mudder and a few precedents have been set…
I cannot see anything on here to see him warrant a ban which is the innocent perplexing and irritating way of a forumite to an administrator ‘thingy’about an ignorant forumite.
We don’t know what you do and if you don’t enlarge on it we continue like noisy kids Googley eyed asking repeatedly “what was it? “
What if he apologised and took the same brazen step to engage in such in private.
You have to accept the judgement and wisdom of those that run the forum to do the right thing and whilst I respect such decisions have to be made dictatorially as opposed to unilaterally, therin
    may lie the problem.
