As a diehard liverpool fan I am gutted after the events of this afternoon. What a joke Howard Webb is, this is Englands best referee? Just goes to show how bad referees are these days.
This guy Webb gave a penalty after 30 seconds for what was a clear dive. For a start he was 25 yards away and could not see the incident clearly and secondly he did not even bother to consult his linesman who never flagged for a foul as there was no contact. If in doublt you never give a penalty. It was a yellow card to Berbatov for diving.
Then he sent Steven Gerrard off after half an hour for what was a yellow card offence. Seconds before Rafael left the ground with two feet and won the ball of Meireles regardless if Meireles pulled out or not you cannot leave the ground with two feet. So it was a red card for Rafael but not given. Seconds later Gerrard left the ground with one foot and won the ball clearly. After Carricks theatrics Webb showed the Skipper red.
Now also remember this is the guy that refereed the WC final and didnt send off Dejong for that horrific challenge on Xabi Alonso that could of killed him. High kick with studs showing straight into the chest, lucky not to puncture a lung. The dutch should of been down to 9 men before half time but Webb hadnt the guts to act.
Webb was an absolute disgrace today. He crumbled to Utd and fergusons pressure not to mention the full house at Old Trafford. I think he has given 4 penalties there in his last 6 games. Utd seem to get everything week in week out.
I take heart from liverpools performance under Daglish it was time for Roy to go but its sad to see a game of this stature decided by terrible refereeing and favourotism toward Utd by Webb yet again. Only sour grapes are towards Webb. The guy is a tool and he needs to answer for todays shocking decesisions that all went Utds way.

Never a penalty….

I thought Gerrard was a bit rash and probably frustrated at the lack of a challenge from Meireles just before.
Glad Roy’s gone and maybe we will see a bit the passion back.

The only one who destroyed Liverpool was that joker Webb, it wasnt a penalty and it wasnt a red card. I have no doubt if Webb had of done his job properly it would of been at least a replay and Liverpool would of done them at Anfield.
Utd beat a 10 man team with a goal from a penalty that should never of been. Gerard should of never gone because Webb should of blown for Rafael seconds before and sent him off.
Utd couldnt break down 10 men in an hour of open play so how you claim we were destroyed is beyond me.
Webb is a disgrace and as for United, same old shower of *****, ryhmes with punts

How any Utd fan can be proud of that is also beyond me. Webb is just another ref either afraid of fergie or possibly on the Utd christmas card list. Perhaps he is even on the Utd payroll judging on his performances at old trafford.
Disgrace.
January 10, 2011 at 18:17 #335334Suprise, suprise
The FA have decided to charge Ryan Babel with improper conduct but no penalties to Webb for his shocking display and blatant favourotism towards Utd yesterday.
He should be investigated and made to answer for such poor refereeing and also suspended.
Yet again Ferguson is pulling Webbs strings like the puppet he is and the FA are too afraid to do anything about it.
FA might aswell stand for Ferguson, Alex because he basically runs the show, he is untouchable.

Good on Ryan Babel he is 100% correct.
January 10, 2011 at 19:19 #335341Oh come on Fitzer, get a grip. You sound like some moaning betting office habituee who always blames a human, be it jockey, trainer, steward when his horse gets beat; always looking for excuses.
I’m sure you’re disappointed but you can’t possibly begin to think a referee will always make split-second decisions that are indesputably correct. Even with the benefit of slow-motion replays that TV audiences and TV panellists have, there is still quite a lot of disagreement as to what decision a referee should have made re. penalties/offside/bad tackles/hand-balls etc. Webb had to make his decision without the aid of replays and different camera angles. Because his decisions went against your team, you start saying he’s pro United! . You watch footy on TV don’t you? Then you must know that, even with all the technology, TV panellistss often disgaree with one another in their analysis of refereeing decisions.
FWIW I reckon Gerrard did deserve red but that Man Utd shouldn’t have been awarded a penalty; but then I only came to those conclusions after watching replays from different angles. A luxury Webb didn’t have.
Gerrard may be a world class player, but that doesn’t mean he’s above making errors of judgement or above the laws of the game. If some hardly-heard of Wolves midfielder had gone crashing in like Gerrard did on say, Torres, you’d probably be screaming for him to get a red card.
BTW I don’t support any premier league club, so can’t be accused of being a biased scouser or manc.January 10, 2011 at 19:33 #335345I take everything on board you say insomniac.
However in regard to Webb the stats show he has been very kind to Utd in nearly everygame there in the last couple of years with a number of wrong decisions.
If it was a once off bad performance by Webb I wouldnt be that insensed. Its the fact that there is a clear pattern of favourotism to the Mancs that bugs me and its not only against Liverpool.
Some of his controversial decsisions have greatly helped Utd in recent years, all at Old Trafford.

Liverpool fans have turned into a disgrace lately, all I’ve heard them complain about is the board, the manager, the players and the referees for years now, it’s like they can’t accept that their not a big club anymore.
If I have to listen to anymore of this King Kenny **** anymore I’ll rip my hair out, you lot still manage to find something to complain about after all this hype of the king being back! ffs
January 16, 2011 at 21:14 #336310I’m no fan of Webb, he had a terrible game in the WC Final and he wasn’t great at Old Trafford.
However I was more annoyed that Agger made the challenge when he didn’t need to and Gerrard was stupid going into the challenge like that. I’ve no real moans about it all.
Anyway, Kenny’s back, the fans are united, press conferences won’t contain the embarrassing statements like they did with the previous manager and we’ll just have to get on with it for the rest of the season.
I’d walk a million miles…
January 18, 2011 at 16:00 #336560Webb has been a supporter of utd down thru the years. But i thought Gerrard’s tackle was still a red and peno was still a peno.
Todays standards of football are not even in the same league as say 10 years ago. The game is too soft these days. 10 years ago those 2 decisions would have been different
January 18, 2011 at 19:16 #336585I agree the game is far too soft nowadays. Its starting to be a bit of a joke IMO. I think its a disgrace the way these guys roll around crying when there is nothing wrong with them and if players square up to each other they are sent off. You cant shoulder to shoulder challenge anymore or go in hard to win the ball. Fifa and fa are ruining the game. It will be a no contact sport soon at this rate.
Soccer is turning into a real pansies game. They should come over here and play gaa football or hurling for a while and play a real mans game. I doubt too many would be cut out for it tho. They would spend most of the time on the ground crying.
Imagine ronaldo or drogba thrown into a dublin -v- meath or cork -v- kerry game championship game. Haha the poor little flowers wouldnt make it 5 mins.
