August 25, 2013 at 10:17 #449479War Command will be seen at his best when the pace is quick. Small field, slow run tactical affairs will not suit.

August 25, 2013 at 21:28 #449517Exactly Nathan, War Command needs 7f now, and a truly run 7f at that.
In June, a strongly run 6f is not a sprinter’s race. That early in the season it takes quite a bit of stamina to succeed (ie a miler). Move on 7 weeks to The Curragh and another 6f trip, War Command did not have the speed of Big Time (sprinter) and Sudirman. O’Brien also in nowhere near as good a form in the middle of August as he was at the time of Royal Ascot.
Those looking to knock the form of the Coventry say that no Coventry runner has won a good race since. Fact is they do not need to to tell us War Command is a really good two year old. Parbold again, finished close behind Astaire in another Group2 this week. Just 1/2 a length (two necks) behind Astaire in the Gimcrack. So on "form"… War Command would’ve won the York race by 5 1/2 lengths. Just as on "form" he would’ve been a wide margin winner of the July Stakes at Newmarket (on a line through Sir John Hawkins), Goodwood’s Champagne (through Parbold again) and Richmond (through Thunder Strike). Of course the three horses concerned may have improved, but to say such a thing is in itself admitting the
winner
‘s form
IS
"working out".
"
True
form" (how good a horse is) is
not
measured purely on whether it finished first, second, third, or tenth in its races. It
is
measured by how good those in front and behind are
and
(not forgetting) the
distances
he/she finished in front of or was beaten by.
Had War Command won at Ascot by just
1
length it would be true to say the Coventry/War Command’s form is not working out. But the
fact
is he won by
6
.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 18, 2013 at 15:51 #451671I wanted to apologise to Gingertipster for referring to him in such base terms on this thread. I have already done so via personal message but wanted to add it here publicly as well.
I should not have used the term I did and am aware it lowers the tone of the site, so apologies to those who run the place as well.
No matter how much you disagree you should be able to keep the head and be civil to other members.
I suffer from type 1 diabetes and am riddled with several other health problems, some related, others not and require four injections and more than twenty tablets a day to get by. In the past few months I have developed hayfever and an allergy to, of all things alcohol, which makes my sinuses swell like a balloon.
I realise that is no excuse for playing a poof’s game on here but it has rather got me down.
I haven’t placed a bet since "exiting" the site but have kept an eye on the bigger races and was happy with Toormore, who I have backed at 20/1 for the 2000 Guineas.
I might have a look at the Ayr Gold Cup if the ground isn’t ridiculous come Saturday.
Finally, thanks to all who had kind things to say regarding my efforts on the site. You guys crack me up at times. Cheers Gentlemen and happy punting, if you can’t be good be LUCKY.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 18, 2013 at 16:24 #451677Great to see you back Steve.
As i said in the PM, I said some stuff that was taken in a different way than was meant (my fault). Best forgotten. Appreciate you making it public though.
You’re much respected on here and (health allowing) look forward to reading more from you in the coming weeks Steve.

Value Is EverythingSeptember 18, 2013 at 17:02 #451687Beware of making excuses for horses who tend to start at short prices.
The National Stakes is Ireland’s biggest 2yo race and War Command did not run in it.
That tells its own story for me.

Value Is EverythingSeptember 18, 2013 at 22:51 #451734Only just noticed that the
War Command
thread had turned into the ‘Have you seen stevecaution?’ thread
Looks like I’ve missed all the handbags anyway. Good to see you return though Steve, your whimsical views have been missed of late.September 19, 2013 at 11:47 #451773Welcome back Steve, hope your health improves.

It never fails J Star. When I am caught walking around Tesco’s starkers the staff simply tell other customers:-
"It’s all right, he’s got diabetes"
I have heard Oscar Pistorious’ legal team are going to base his defence on the whole handgun/low blood sugar incompatibility reasoning.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 19, 2013 at 17:01 #451791Diabetes is a valid defence J17, if not an "excuse". I am type 2 (on 2 gliclazide tablets a day). When not fully controlled emotions are over-exaggerated without always knowing there’s anything wrong. I am never violent (as some can be) but looking back I know before diagnosed my character changed, went from being placid to losing my temper at something trivial. Blood-sugar level should’ve been between 4 and 7, when diagnosed mine was 23! Thankfully it is fairly well controlled thanks to my Diabetic Nurse, but has led to Glaucoma. Hope you are testing yourself Steve and taking regular exercise.
All the best.

I am aware you have Diabetes, since i recall a similar instance which ended up in "I HAS TEH DIABETES!". Hence my reference.
Excluding the fact that esculating handbags to emotional spats on an internet forum is a bizarre but humerous affair to watch, an internet forum is a controlled environment not like interactive life experiences. So it’s funny to read "I didn’t mean to say that, i have Diabetes".
"I didn’t mean to racially abuse you, but i have a cold you see, and i feel angry".
Steve, i look forward to Oscar defending himself with that

Can only imagine the Hitler trial if he hadn’t shot himself.
"You see, a Jewish doctor told me i had Diabetes … and the rest is history".

Not being funny Ginge but have you ever considered the green herb as a remedy for this? Last time I went to Sandown I was higher than a kite and it was an amazing experience, a million times better than when drinking which doesn’t even make the day more enjoyable!
