But irrelevant of betting there are a few I cried at or for!!
GOSSAMER of Luca Cumani’s was a little diamond that I just adored and over a mile in soft ground she was some horse!!
I cried when Frankel won his last race what a horse!!
I also cry EVERY year at the start of the Derby because I absolutely love the race and I would willingly watch the Derby and nothing else for the rest of my days.
January 30, 2017 at 23:35 #1284897Sorry for re-opening bad memories G
Lol, not a problem Jaymo. When it comes to being a punter, I think the
old saying, “If you can’t take a joke, you shouldn’t have joined” seems
apt
January 30, 2017 at 23:47 #1284900Not quite sure why on this particular occasion, but I lost it on one occasion only, and that was when Midnight Chase won The 2012 Pillar Chase. It wasn’t just the fact that he turned my Gold Cup “book” from very red to very green as he crossed the line, but probably the fact that he was one of my favourite ever horses. I remember 5 minutes after getting slightly emotional, thinking “what the hell just happened there” lol.
I didn’t actually burst out crying, but that Saturday morning with less than a fortnight till the 2013 Gold Cup, waking up to the news that Katenko was out of the race with Colic, was a hammer blow, and I was close to losing it from sheer frustration. I was in a trance for the rest of the day.
January 31, 2017 at 06:15 #1284919Raymo, just those last few seconds before the start of the Derby gets to me every year. Not crying as such but a tingle up my spine and a surge of just being alive courses through me. Same with the National start although not quite as intense.
January 31, 2017 at 07:51 #1284925Too many to mention, but one horse in particular can set me off even now and it’s going to be hard to mention his name but here goes…
GEORGE WASHINGTON (Gorgeous George)
I still can’t talk or write about this beautiful horse without tears in my eyes.
He died in atrocious conditions at Monmouth Park trying to win a Breeders Cup classic for the Magnier,Smith, Tabor partnership Ballydoyle. He broke his leg in the mud and suffered dreadfully before help came to end his pain. I loved that horse and never forgave them for letting him run again after he failed to perform at stud.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 31, 2017 at 09:48 #1284927In joy – Kauto Star,Betfair Chase 2011. Written off by everyone and amazingly went off at 6/1,leaped like a salmon that day, incredible performance by an incredible horse.
In sorrow – Gloria Victis. I was only just getting into racing when my dad took me to Kempton and he won his racing post chase,he was the first horse to make me say “WOW” and we thought he was a superstar.Sitting in my living room in silence with the old man after watching the GC was truly awful.
January 31, 2017 at 11:21 #1284931Has to be Rooster Booster back in the 2003 Champion Hurdle for me. The way he came there absolute tanking and just went past them all on the bridle.
I’m still crying now actually..
January 31, 2017 at 11:33 #1284933Two moments stand out for this man who usually has ice running through his veins and immune too emotion but on the two occasions I was reduced to a big, inconsolable blubbering wreck.
Sunday afternoon 19/06/2016 Prix de Diane
Will she stay or won’t she, Demuro gives her a peach as the best horse in training kicks clear and sees out the trip and then some, winning me a kings ransom in the process, the money was nothing compared to the intrinsic feeling of pride as the best filly in Europe slammed them into submission remaining unbeaten which in the end all got too much for me.
From the weeping of euphoria to the sobbing of pure heartache
Saturday night 02/11/2013 Breeders Cup Classic
The lesser fancied Will Take Charge thundering down the home straight as Luis Saez gets a tune out of my boy, just arriving a stride to late as they crossed the finishing line, as a young whippersnapper back then awaiting his first four figure payout it all got too overwhelming and I am not afraid to admit the tears of pure grief were flowing freely down this Iron Mans smooth, wet behind the ears baby face.
Brings it all back talking about it now but I must admit it is therapeutic now that it is out in the open.
January 31, 2017 at 12:56 #1284940Palypso De Creek, winning a Leicester hunter chase for Mike Dawson just days after his wife, Palypso’s trainer Jill, had lost her battle with cancer.
The gelding’s rider Claire Hart (now Hardwick) was in floods crossing the line. I’m getting a bit misty eyed again just recalling the event even now, almost exactly two years on.

January 31, 2017 at 13:24 #1284948Knockara Beau when he won the Cleeve Hurdle. If George Charlton could find a little race for him at Kelso to finish off his career then I’m sure there would be the odd tear or two atop the old stand.
January 31, 2017 at 13:28 #1284949Eulogy who won the 1999 Whitbread Gold Cup, then the following season he had to be put down after suffering an injury back at Sandown. When every other racing “fan” went back to the bar etc. I just stood there in disbelief and cried.
January 31, 2017 at 21:05 #1285055If I’m there Rob don’t be blubbing on my shoulder!
Cormack
February 1, 2017 at 15:32 #1285173I remeber Willie carson crying real tears at one horse. Who says jockeys arent sentimental
