Cried every single race sprinter sacre ran in last season.
Don’t think I’ve ever cried at any other horseJanuary 30, 2017 at 18:49 #1284834Golden Chieften Midlands Grand National 2016
Had £175 e/w at 20s. 12 lengths clear going to the last and hit the deck – as did i
January 30, 2017 at 19:11 #1284839None from watching a race ever.
Only when have lost relatives and friends, and when I had my beloved springer put down.
Was witness to seeing a stableyard as a young lad, the morning after a fire swept through two of the three entire stable blocks killing 5 racehorses, a couple of hacks and 2 dogs, was pretty high on the grimness stakes.Get great joy from watching racing but never close to crying.

January 30, 2017 at 20:01 #1284849Many an emotional rollercoaster watching races, which is essentially what any sport you enjoy should engender, but never tears
When on-course I found and still do find that the stiff-upper-lip tends to quiver a touch when amongst the horses after the race – steaming profusely in the unsaddling enclosure and blowing hard with sweating bodies covered in swollen veins, or a quiet moment by the stables watching them being washed down and watered
Noble, beautiful creatures that give their all and give us so much pleasure in doing so
January 30, 2017 at 20:24 #1284854Ten days before my 10th birthaday, the 1951 GN was run. I had just asked my Dad for my weekly pocket money. (1s/6d I think)
He said I’d have to wait until after the race as he was listening to it on the radio. He had backed Nickle Coin. I may have cried if it had lost. As it happens I got 3 shillings that week. :)January 30, 2017 at 21:31 #1284865Although never an occasion for lachrymosity, reading about Humorist can bring a small lump to the throat.
The horse won the 1921 Derby by a neck following a sustained battle with Craig an Eran. A couple of weeks later he was found dead in his stable. It turns out Humorist had chronic tuberculosis, and had effectively won his Derby on one lung. Quoth Steve Donoghue on Humorist:
He gave me everything he had when it must have been agony for him. No horse ever showed greater courage.
January 30, 2017 at 22:02 #1284872I had a pretty big lump in my throat on Saturday afternoon, not due to the race but what sadly happened five minutes later. That’s the closest I’ve come.

You weren’t the only one crying into your beer Jaymo (figuratively speaking), myself,
and Raymo if my memory serves me, also had him on at 22s and 20s. One of those moments
where you stare at the telly for about a minute, not quite believing what you’ve just
seen. A gut wrenching moment, which I had til this moment been able to put to the
back of my mind….thanks pal

I was counting the winnings and had them near enough already spent before Jacob decided to let him take offGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 30, 2017 at 22:30 #1284878Sea The Stars winning the Arc!!! the commentary Jim Mcgrath did was the best i’ve ever heard!!
January 30, 2017 at 22:37 #1284881The only time I’ve cried properly after a race was when Ardross just failed to reel in Akiyda in the 1982 Arc. I was only ten at the time, in mitigation.
I’ve welled up a few times without quite turning on the full waterworks since then, though. Sprinter Sacre’s scintillating success at last year’s festival was the most recent such occasion.
January 30, 2017 at 22:37 #1284882Yes!! Unbelievable commentary

I still haven’t forgiven Brendan Powell. I remember being out my chair shouting ‘go on the chief’ ‘go on the chief’ as it was devouring up the ground in the home straight. I flung myself to the deck as Powell went over the horses shoulder with the race at his mercy. Many a sleepless night since
January 30, 2017 at 22:53 #1284886Sorry for re-opening bad memories G
