Can someone enlghten me as to where Hold On Juilio was from 2008 until 2011.
The RP shows it ran twice in 2008 and started at 200/1 and 300/1 respectively being pulled up in both.
It then reappears in 2011 wins a maiden hunter chase at Kelso then turns up later on that year wins off 117 for Alan King and is now off 145 and is favourite for a big handicap.
This must be one of the most improved horses in training if not the most.
But where was HOJ for 3 years?

Was bought from Ireland by Vicky Simpson. Backward with some problems. There is winning PTP form prior to Kelso which is not shown on the Racing Post site.

It’s much to her credit that the horse is now enjoying a successful chasing career. Patience and TLC.

MarkTT is spot on, it’s all down to Vicky Simpson, Alan King bought a ready made horse, I heard him on Channel 4 saying he was the real deal the day he arrived in yard.
Bigger surprise is that Quotico Des Poyans didn’t turn out to be just as good, Alan King has wrecked that horse by using hold up tactics, the horse hates to be led, it makes him sulk and he can’t jump with horses in front of him.
Quotica cost £75000, Julio £28000 at the same sale, there wasn’t much between the pair when they left Scotland but Quotica has attitude while Julio is a real Gent.
