All,
KAUTO STAR today confirmed to run in the Hennessey Gold Cup at Newbury on 27th November.
Amazing field confirmed so far with the likes of Denman, 2007 and 2009 winner.
Others included are What A Friend, Neptunes Collonges, Tricky Trickster, Weird Al, Diamond Harry, Niche Market.Rumour has it, Carruthers will be in the line up also…
Denman to start favourite according to William Hill.
Who will you back?
IMO – I will go for Kauto and WAF on each way
October 27, 2010 at 19:33 #324960Denman.

Kauto Star hasn’t been confirmed for the race at all, merely entered. The plan has always been to take in Down Royal this weekend on the way to Kempton, before lining up for another (perhaps final) stab at the Gold Cup.
I’d want good odds about him turning up at Newbury, let alone winning.
October 27, 2010 at 19:37 #324964Kauto is surely only entered incase Down Royal and BF chase are lost to the weather. Anyway I fancy Diamond Harry for this, appears to go well fresh and just the sort to run a big race.
October 27, 2010 at 19:45 #324972Yes you are right, but Nicholls has already said Betfair Chase is off the radar this year and will focus on Down Royal, King George and Gold Cup, racing post has stated that Kauto intends to run both Down Royal and Hennessy

No, it hasn’t.
October 27, 2010 at 20:14 #324985yes you’re right i read it wrong i thought he was cofirmed.
what a treat it would be though for both denman and kauto to go head to head on the 27th
i doubt Nicholls would be so clueless to run Kauto at Down Royal and then 3 weeks later at Newbury when he wants him fresh for Kempton (1 race being fresh) before KGVI chase
we shall see anyway, Hennessy is always mouth watering opening to season first big race
October 27, 2010 at 20:20 #324986Kauto Star will go to Down Royal, before winning a 5th King George.
Kauto has an entry in the Hennesy, I have no idea why tho.
I don’t care, if it is practically impossible, I will stick with Denman, who I was on ante post at 9/2 last year. I just love this horse.

Makes sense when you think about it. Purely precautionary as they have to get a run into him before the King George and they don’t have lot of option.
If Down Royal was abandoned then he The Hennessy would most like be his next option as he wouldn’t want to take on Imperial Commander. PN has knocked that idea on the head already as he knows it could turn into a real slogging match.
Considering Denman has won it twice quite easily. PN probably thinks if he was forced to run Kauto he could do it even easier.

i agree with most of what you said, apart from easy in last year’s Hennessy, i think What a Friend put up a massive challenge, and Denman giving away 22lbs to WAF was far from easy, only getting away from the last fence quicker gaining a length 1/2 made it look easy.
WAF a serious challenger to the big 3, KS, IC, Denman this year !!

The King won’t run, obviously, and I can’t see WAF going for the Hennessy a week after the Betfair.
Can’t really see past Denman, although there are a few entries that could just about be worth an each-way punt.

So don't run, just like the others always do
October 28, 2010 at 01:51 #325031I started following Nick Williams stable a couple of seasons back so will back Diamond Harry. Probably Denman as well.

October 28, 2010 at 09:10 #325046Kauto Star has more chance of running in the Hennessy than Zenyatta has of repeating her BC classic win of last year. Won’t happen – and if it did, he wouldn’t win.
Kauto Star simply would not be able to give lumps of weight away to other good horses; albeit of lesser ability.
I think What A Friend is the one to be on this year.

Don’t follow you.
If you are talking about WAF being a huge danger in the Hennessy he’d have to run first which he won’t. If you’re talking an overall danger you would have to believe he’s improved about 24lbs just to catch up with Denman and about 30lbs to have a chance of uppsetting Kauto Star.
It would seem he will go for the Betfair Chase instead of the Hennessy. If he wasn’t PN’s I doubt if he would be.
On the book he’d have a chance of winning the Hennessy on the book despite Aintree he has to find nearly two stone to beat Imperial Commander
.As a trainer and not an owner it is better for PN to keep them apart. Always a chance he can win both races and the place prize money is more or less guaranteed at Haydock as not many will want to take on Imperial Commander.

Am I missing something here?
What was it PN said? Gave Ruby the best feel in 3 years when he rode him work the other day…….he’s the best bet in the Gold Cup.
Me thinks PN is full of you know what and is exagertaing somewhat…….good way of convincing Sir Alex he should go to Haydock…….or am I being too cynical?
October 28, 2010 at 11:52 #325080This race is made for Pandorama.
