I love Denman, but I really cant see him giving the weight to these horses at the bottom of the weights this year. In my mind its a much stronger race than last years renewal. Pandorama, Weird Al, Diamond Harry for starters. I honestly believe at least 1 of these will beat him this year (& wouldn’t be surprised if all 3 did) with the weight he has to give them. What A Friend & Barbers Shop are not top class, (even allowing for WAF’s exploits after Newbury last year I still have him down as a bit of a dodge pot).
Weird Al looks really solid to me, but I’ll be backing Diamond Harry. He loves Newbury, crucially shows his best 1st time out & he is carrying my money. THIS IS HIS BEST CHANCE OF WINNING A BIG RACE THIS SEASON.
If he was to blow out, I’d love to see Denman pull it off, I just cant see it happening myself.
Nicely done TAPK

Very happy bunny yesterday, Denman ran a stormer, better than I thought he would. When I wrote that on 16th Nov I was about to stick £250 on DH (a big bet for me), I didn’t, I very stupidly only put £100 on thinking I would "Top up" on the day. Then for some stupid reason I got to yesterday & had a brain storm that Pandorama would win… & stuck the other £150 on that.

What a stupid brain storm that was… I should never change my mind again, it always ends in tears!!!!
I stand by what I said two weeks back that is highlighted, that was DH’s race this season. Think he will struggle from now on.
November 28, 2010 at 11:21 #330285I’m sure they’re more than capable, although a dose of STD (Sam Twiston-Davies) could work if all else fails!

Or even a dose of Jason Maguire?

RPR have Denman running to 1lb less than last year, though they’ve had to show Niche Market improving 5lbs to accomodate it.
Had he run from last year’s mark (8lb lower), he’d still have finished no better than 3rd, which illustrates the higher quality of this year’s field.November 28, 2010 at 12:12 #330289Just like in the Paddy Power, the fav goes placing 3rd. Too bad for Denman, should have landed this one. My heart goes for all those who blindly backed him, ignoring all the warning signs. Nice display by Diamond, ran well.

He drifted to a backable each way price in the end but I couldn’t believe the amount of people on Forums and in the RP saying he was a place lay.
November 28, 2010 at 21:00 #330338I have just watched a recording of yesterday’s race and full marks to both Diamond Harry and Burton Port, who pulled well clear of the remaining runners, and deservedly filled the first two places. Both are very promising chasers, and I particularly like Burton Port, only a six year old but a real model of consistency, who never ever seems to run a bad race, despite the odd jumping errors (though never serious enough to bring him down).

I simply do not "get" some people’s obsession with Denman.Even I wouldn’t be churlish enough not to admit that he has been a very good steeplechaser, one of the best around in recent years, but certainly not one of the greatest of all time, as some folk, swept away by the press hype, might have us believe.
He was clearly totally unable to cope with the weight concession to his younger rivals, and whilst he ran well, he never (to my eyes at least) looked like winning, and I will be very surprised if he wins another Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. I feel that he is past his best and yesterday, it wasn’t even as if he came close to winning – he didn’t, and was beaten over 15 lengths by the winner. One win in his last eight races also should tell us something.Whether some people like it or not, I feel that the order in steeplechasing is changing and last season’s novices look like a very promising group of horses, well able to challenge the likes of Kauto Star (who isn’t always the cleanest of jumpers) and even Imperial Commander, who is still my idea of the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner next March.
It will be an interesting next few months, and I will be very interested to see what happens.

Fine bit of insight from yourself Silver,Well done! Crunch point No 1 came when inevitably Denman loomed alongside but Diamonds jumping put that to rest, crunch point 2 came when Burton Port chased him hard after the last,The Diamond didn"t dissapoint! Daryl Jacob rode the sections like Steve Cauthen and always had Denman needing to go at it to hustle him! Superb victory and me being me is still raising my glass to a fantastic victory! I have just taken 33/1 about next seasons Hennessey winner too! Would you believe he will be a second season chaser also?
November 28, 2010 at 22:16 #330344RPR have Denman running to 1lb less than last year,
1lb less my Ar*e,he ran to a mark 5lb better than last year and time will tell that the first 2 are exceptional horses! Burton Port only needs to improve another 10lb and he will and he will be jumping the last in the Gold cup alongside the likes of Denman!
How many times have i told you the clock Never lies!

So Niche Market improved 10lbs – on his 21st run over fences?
You really do talk some tripe, at times!November 28, 2010 at 22:52 #330349So Niche Market improved 10lbs – on his 21st run over fences?
You really do talk some tripe, at times!Since when did you become a respected judge of ratings reet?
Niche Market ran his 2nd best ever race yesterday to a mark of 155,that would be 3lb better than his highest ever rating, his best run was when he got beat in a photo finish by Tricky tipster around the same course, funnily enough he carried level weights with Denman that day and would have beat him!
Denman has never been a 182 chaser and yesterday proved that! Thetotherone ran right up to his mark yesterday and looks a National horse! I"m happy to talk tripe in your opinion as i enjoy making you eat it afterwards always served with a little humous!
November 29, 2010 at 01:00 #330359Looking at the race again, I’d say Denman ran no more than three pounds below his best. Niche market may have improved a few pounds, no more. Not inconcievable, when taking in to account it was the first time Niche Market completed for Nicholls. Shock horror, horse improved when trained by Nicholls.
TAPK,
It is Niche Market you should be thinking about backing for the National, not The Tother One. Take another look, TTO jumped appallingly and seems a right monkey. In contrast Niche Market jumped well and is already a National winner.Value Is EverythingNovember 29, 2010 at 09:48 #330375Looking at the race again, I’d say Denman ran no more than three pounds below his best. Thetotherone
on the other hand was at it all the way round and full marks to his jockey for sticking with it,that run proves he wants further these days and i can see him hunting round Aintree and then letting his stamina pull him into the race later on,thats 2 horses i have backed for the National now
Thetotherone
at 170 and
Gullible Gordon
at 50/1! Niche Markets Irish National victory puts him in with the stats boys!

Presenting has never produce a top 4 miler, and only one in any class. Needless to say this also applies to Denman but he’ll never be aimed at the national.
