I love 2 year old racing and this week we’re in for a treat. Thursday’s May Hill has Spacious, Cape Amber and one of B. Hills supposed best fillies in Sugar Mint plus a whole host of others. Fanshawe’s Spacious impressed me beating colts at Leicester and I go for this one, although she might need some give, but I expect Doncaster will have it well watered….

In the Champagne on Saturday I like Atlantic Sport and Tajdeef as 2 against the field, which unfortunately has lost Raven’s Pass and Rio de la Plata who goes to Ireland.
I shall stick with Atlantic Sport.

The National Stakes at Curragh Sunday, well what a race in prospect with Rio, Myboycharlie, Henrythenavigator and New Approach expected to line up. Awfully difficult, but with a sunny week forecast for Dublin, so presumably good ground conditions by Sunday, I might go with Henrythenavigator to redeem his reputation.

All this besides a classic and the French races – who wants to go to work.

    hi marb,
I love Juniper Girl but she needs soft/heavy to show her best don’t you think? and I really don’t think she’s up to this level personally, hope to be proved wrong for ya, but maybe if the race cuts up, they’re looking for some ‘black type’ for her in a gr.1.
Eddie Jock has gone off the boil like you say. He had a lot of runs as a 2 year old and been busy this season, so not surprising really. Like to see him come back but I fancy Cecil’s Pillar of Hercules in that race.

Mr Bell’s best 2 year old is supposed to be Redford and he really ought to win his maiden before long on going with some give in it but I don’t think Bell has a great bunch this season do you?. Milanollo is a nice 2 year old filly to look out for, showed enough at Folkestone and is well thought of. Probably need a mile now.

    You follow any other stables?

Hope to get a nice winner off you marb before the end of the week

    hi marb,
I got a picture of Motivator in my lounge in a prominent position with Murtagh aboard from his Derby win. This is well aftertiming so excuse me blowing my trumpet with you, but I backed him after his initial maiden win at Newmarket at various prices 40-1, 33’s and again after he won the Post trophy 16”s, 12’s. I also backed him for the Guineas so I lost out there, but made up for it in the Derby. I’ve never won so much…lol! or bet so much
he was a bit disappointing after that though, bit of a shame.

On Wednesday this week at Doncaster The Betchworth Kid is running with Hayley Turner aboard, he needs a strong ride so hope she can give him this. I fancy him strongly each way and will be having a bet. It’s over a mile and he really wants that trip.

Wow, thanks for that as you’ve put me onto something! The Betchworth Kid has rock solid form and runs off 82 again. Will need to improve a tiny bit but in every race he’s noted in the sporting life as "staying on strongly". I’m a big fan of the sire as i seen it come third in the derby when I was just 16, a proper arab horse who’s doing really well! [the danger could be Ghetto in that race] Incidently, in his last race, the horse who finished second TOWNCAB has gone on to dead heat with a useful horse of John Dunlops Goodwood Starlight, and runs off a 6 pound penalty tommorrow at Lingfield. He’s entered at Donny do you think there going to hose up tommorrow with a penalty then run a big race a Donny? The bets are suddenly appearing, thanks! :)

As for Motivator, whats you brief opinion on who really owned the horse, and do you know or have any info as to how big the feud was between her maj and the royal Ascot racing club? Thanks.

    hi marb,
well best of luck with Townkab today, I might have an e.w. on Shadow Cabinet as A. Elliott I think has a good strike rate with Mr Bell’s horses and I’m biased and he could sneak a place back on turf at Lingfield, as his last run was on a.w.
it’s a bit confusing this mixed meeting at Lingfield, something to watch.

Mr Cecil has a couple of nice 2 year olds in nurseries this week. Crystany looks well in tomorrow and in that Betchworth Kid’s race on Thursday I like Jack Dawkins, what do you think? as he’s run well in a couple of decent maidens, not beaten far by Ravens Pass and Centennial, so he’s one to note I think with Ghetto.

I can’t answer your question regarding the ownership of Motivator. I’m afraid I’m not in touch with Her Majesty’s representative on this issue

I’ve noted your comments re Eddie Jock – blimey! you’re not Michael Bell are you m ar b ??….lol.

The Champagne stakes looks interesting, I think river proud has to be a somewhat overlooked horse in the guineas betting at the moment and what a story it would be if Dragon Dancer could rack up a few group wins!

yeah River Proud, don’t hear that one mentioned much considering his July stakes form. Too American bred for my liking though as far as the Guineas is concerned, I just can’t see it but you can convince me if you like.

Anyone done their dough on Burn the Breeze today, Leicester maiden 2.20? shocking ride from Ted Durcan I thought, I feel it should and would have won that. I don’t normally mind him.

I take it you mean hes too dirt bred for your liking?

I have not backed him (so im not that strongly in favour) however, he lost narrowly to Winker Watson who is a best priced 12/1 shot while hes at 25s.

In the July stakes River proud was up there with the pace all the way, where as WW had the opportunity to come off the strong pace. RP was pretty much the 1st one under pressure at the head of affairs but kept finding off a decent pace from the get go (inexperience maybe who knows only had a maiden run, we know how much 2yo’s can improve from run to run)…so to me the market doesnt really add up. Maze is in there at the same price when his pedigree screams Derby not Guineas and his trainer has said this… I’m off out now but quickly…looking at the betting for the guineas those that spearhead the market seem either sprinters or derby runners to me…on pedigree at least.

Sorry if that doesnt make any sense im just writing streaming thoughts!

gee thanks marb, I’m glad you noticed :D Andrew Elliott rode a good race I thought, he was just being held though. A nice e.w. bet he ran a little better than I expected.

Weight told on Townkab I think, don’t you? don’t see much of Littmoden/Mclaughlin these days, I used to follow this combo at Wolverhampton before they changed the surface.

    hi andy,
yeah it makes perfect sense. It is the dirt bred that puts me off and it just smacks of one that maybe won’t train on. There are plenty others I prefer, put it that way.

Understandable what you are saying, in my long winded rant i was basically trying to get the message across that i think the current market is going to turn out a very false one come next year
