Didn’t have any financial interest in it and I’m after-timing (of course i am) but i felt this before the race. What was Gary Moore thinking? He knows more than me but Goshen didn’t look good at Ascot but he persists in going chasing and at a left handed course at that; thought we were always told he wouldn’t go left-handed again. Before this i fully expected to see his next run in the Kingwell not a novice chase at a track he hasn’t handled well in the past.

Think he’s come out and said he’s done now isn’t he. (Gary has said that, not the horse himself, he threw the towel in long ago!)

He was the horse I was most excited about seeing at one point but he’s ran varying levels of crap for 90% of the time since the triumph.

Best of luck for the future to him! The nutter :yahoo:

Agree Worzel. It made no sense whatsoever.

A wee lesson for us, perhaps? Had he never run again after that Triumph, some would be mourning the loss of another Golden Cygnet.

Agree with the above that if you were giving Goshen a make or break run to prove himself as a chaser, today’s conditions would hardly seem to offer the best chance.

Surely Gary Moore must have had a good idea of what would happen today? Perhaps the owner wanted to pursue the chasing route, and Gary thought today was a good way of putting this idea to bed.

Looking at the program book, it was probably today or not at all. There’s only one more Beginners Chase between now and the end of the season, at Leicester, and one novice chase on a r-h track, at Exeter. But both of those are in the same week as the Kingwell.

After that, every novice chase he’d qualify for south of the M62 is a Graded race.

So they’ll be praying for soft/heavy ground at Wincanton. After that the only race on a r-h track is the Select Hurdle at Sandown on the final day of the season.

“A wee lesson for us, perhaps? Had he never run again after that Triumph, some would be mourning the loss of another Golden Cygnet.”

I’d say that the horses Golden Cygnet was pulling double over at Ayr when he fatally fell were “just a bit” better then what Goshen had got beat in the Triumph when departing.

Two things here. Going the wrong way round, and going chasing. At the price plenty would have laid him. (I backed the middle horse Christopher wood)
There is a big hurdle which the horse needs to be fit for taking place next month.
By the time the race comes round he’ll be spot on for it.
I’ve seen what the trainer had to say about his chasing plans after the last race and I’ll dig it out in a mo if it is still online.

Typically Irish racing have taken the story down now,and replaced with today’s report but after his chase debut Moore was interviewed and said words to the effect that, that was it for chasing for this season, but he’d be trying again “next year”. ( Next season) He also mentioned a hurdle race in February as a target. He said the course direction and ground was crucial to another chase attempt. Given that he has done the opposite on all counts means there was little hope of a different result today.

Not sure what was more surprising, that Lingfield was actually able to stage a jumps meeting or The Gosh running left handed when we all know his history…….will anyone still be ‘all aboard’ for the Kingwell next month?

I assumed they were assembling a suite of thoroughly unsuitable conditions to get him handicapped over fences.

He’s just cost me 18k today. Stuck him in a few bets yesterday when the going was soft/heavy and a purple patch of luck followed. Was worried when I seen the track drying out but still think he would’ve won handily had Moore made more use of him and kicked earlier.
I’m up over £4k so cant complain but another £18k would’ve been amazing.

    ouch
He is still a bit of a nutjob in terms of refusing to settle properly which is possibly why Moore held onto him longer than ideal

Just noticed he is entered in the Queen Alexandra Stakes tomorrow, surely they won’t run him on fast ground
