very fair question ruby will check youtube!
March 2, 2021 at 20:39 #1526717Hmm, tbh I’d expect any horse who’s previously refused to start to be followed in at the start of a big race. Although the cane type of thing was interesting.
Value Is EverythingMarch 2, 2021 at 20:40 #1526718Ruby unfortunately I can’t find the starts to any of the other races of day 1 on youtube! I don’t subscribe to any of the channels either so can’t view them that way.
March 2, 2021 at 20:41 #1526719Yes Ginge I may well be going down an empty hole here, but on a Tuesday night in lockdown I’ve nothing better to do than go full inspector morse
March 2, 2021 at 20:42 #1526720Bar Melon it was a very average supreme that year
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 2, 2021 at 20:42 #1526721Me neither, Ben. But thanks for searching.
March 2, 2021 at 20:44 #1526722Found his next start (his first race at the Punchestown festival), there’s a guy waving something in his right hand at the horse from behind at the off
March 2, 2021 at 20:46 #1526723And looks like they went back to Cheltenhams sucessful whipping method 3 days later in the Champion Hurdle at Punchestown
March 2, 2021 at 20:49 #1526724Mickeyip,
Have you read either my Free Princess Latifa thread in the Lounge or Paul’s in this section?
Felt so strongly I left this forum over it!
But it has no bearing on this debate.
You’re welcome to put what you think about Sheikh Mo in either of those threads.
Value Is EverythingMarch 2, 2021 at 20:55 #1526728Is there always a bloke with a stick in his hand making sure they all jump off? I mean he was strictly behind Labaik….
March 2, 2021 at 20:57 #1526729Don’t know about “always”, but often there is (or was) someone with a bullwhip type thing.
Value Is EverythingMarch 2, 2021 at 21:02 #1526730I remember Mad Moose having one as well to be fair, though can’t for sure say if they ever used any sort of whip with him
March 2, 2021 at 21:07 #1526731Just had a look at the start of the 2016 Arkle and though there were only seven runners in the race, two older men ran after them also using their whips. So, this seems to be standard practice…
March 2, 2021 at 21:10 #1526733Paul Nicholls about horses switching yards so close to the Festival.
Got to agree with him when he says that the horses switched from Ireland to him needed almost a year to find their routine.
March 2, 2021 at 21:11 #1526734I think they had the “long tom” in England but not in Ireland IIRC…more as tradition at that point really (stemming from whipping in a pack of hounds?) , the chap cracking it would be positioned quite far back behind the horses and seemed to give it one token ceremonial crack as the horses jumped off or even after they had all jumped and gone.
This article hasn’t aged well:
“Elliott has no secrets”. Hmm.
March 2, 2021 at 21:23 #1526735I was just going to point something out which has been told in that article Green. There were 2 guys on the inside ( 1 with a whip ) and after they set off a bald headed guy could be seen shooting off exactly from where Labaik was stood.
March 2, 2021 at 21:25 #1526736Ruby that is worrying especially for the big guns who have been well supported.
