“I’ll never forget that sick image and yes guarantee Cheveley Park will pull their horses and the sooner the better.”

I’m willing to lay you a decent price that they won’t do this.

    @Shipithollabolla

Wish I’d taken you up on that most generous offer now Ship.

Can’t believe that post was way back on page 12 and this Thread now has 19 pages and 1,975 views, just shows how strong the feelings are running on here and things have obviously spiraled for the BHA to make this announcement tonight.

Good that the BHA is taking decisive action, the Irish regulating boards are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Those I feel most for in this are the stable staff. The horses there are obviously well cared for in life and it’s not hard to see how much the lads and lasses care for their horses when you see them at the races. Obviously a minimum of two were present for the photo in question but I would imagine the vast majority of his staff are devastated and disgusted.

It’s easy to say an owner has the choice to remove their horses but if you had a significant number of horses with Elliott, you would feel a degree of loyalty to the staff if not to the trainer. Elliott has them to thank for his success in recent years and they’ve been repaid in the worst possible way with this.

The shame is that, depending on what punishment is handed out, they will ultimately be the ones who pay for his behavior. They could all be out of a job depending on what way this goes.

For Gordon, you get the feeling there could be more to come.

Quixillios gone to Mullins plus another CPS left supposedly, no idea which one. A bit third hand like.

BHA have made a catastrophic error of judgement. You could justifiably toe the line with the Godolphin case, that the BHA is not supposed to act as a moral police. That the issue should be delegated to the relevant (government/legal) authorities and they are not in a position to judge the character of all those with a financial investment in the case. Irrespective of whether you view this is a moral course of action, it was a logically defensible one.

    That defence collapsed this evening.

In jumping the gun, they have barred a trainer from participating in British racing before the IHRB have conducted their investigation. There has been no due process, just panic. They have appointed themselves the moral guardians of the sport. Do they not realise what this could unleash? The Sheikh Mo problem can, far more easily, be placed at their doorstep? I would have hoped calmer heads in the literal governing body of our entire sport would prevail. Instead they’ve just joined the Twitter outrage mob.

Well, that’s going to set back Racing’s PR drive by a few years!

It couldn’t look much worse to the general public. A penalty kick for Animal Aid and the like, who are predictably having a field day with this.

I often try to defend the racing industry when questioned by colleagues, who have little interest in the sport, but who react to the negative headlines (which seem to occur much too frequently).

Unfortunately, there is no justifying this, I didn’t even try.

    :-(

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

BHA seem to be acting under it’s own rules in it’s own jurisdiction

    1. The BHA has acted under Rule I – 2.2 of the British Rules of Racing.

I think that we can all take it for read that the BHA action tonight will ensure that the IHRB investigation isn’t allowed to meander around , in the hope that this matter drops out of the headlines , and therefore from the public consciousness. For that they should be commended , for once.

Theyve made themselves look extremely foolish and hypocritical

So Gordon Elliot can’t run any horses but Sheikh Mohammed can?

Clearly one of those is too big to fail

Insodoing id wager theyve done exactly what the person who leaked the photo 2 weeks before Cheltenham and every anti racing group wanted them to do

I was one of the first to say the BHA should do something with Sheikh Mo, but this is completely different. Yes, Sheikh Mo’s case deserves an enquiry and I for one hope they stop him from racing in GB as being an unfit person. However, it is unrelated to horse racing and he maintains his innocence, so will take time. Elliott’s case is about horse racing and he’s already admitted the picture is real and is of him and a dead horse. Therefore whichever way you look at it Elliott is guilty of bringing the game in to disrepute.

I take the point re the apparent disparity with the lack of action against Sheikh Mohammed. However perhaps 1 out of 2 is better than 0 out of 2. However in the Sheikh Mohammed case , that is perhaps better handled at governmental level , and through the legal system.
