I know it’s early to be thinking this far ahead, but after a few drinks during the World Cup final I put on an eachway trixie for the 3 Yank majors for next year. Only very small stakes, mind.
Shane Lowry 28/1 – The Masters
Shane spent a lot of last year in the top 10 of the Datagolf rankings and has been often outperforming his official ranking since mid 2021. His Masters record has been a bit iffy but he was tied for 3rd last year and he had a strong year.
Rory McIlroy 11/1 – PGA
Best player in the world was joint 8th here in 2013, which isn’t spectacular but it isn’t concerning. Don’t buy the narrative about him not having the bottle for majors, I view the Open as won by Smith rather than lost by Rory. Be very surprised if he isn’t a single figure price on the Thursday.
Cameron Young 40/1 – US Open
Excellent year on the PGA Tour establishing himself as a major (no pun intended) talent who will help fill the void left by some of the LIV departures. Hits the ball miles but needs to work on accuracy. 40/1 a great price to take a chance on him improving the rest of his game. He hasn’t made the cut in 3 attempts but he’s improving rapidly so expect a strong showing
December 25, 2022 at 15:55 #1628045Love it, can’t wait to get into watching and playing a bit of golf again, found a local par 3 I can walk onto here without too much hassle so I shall be abusing that when the weather gets better until they eventually catch on and tell me to f*** off lol.
Onto the majors, I think Will Zalatoris may be a good shout to make a run at a couple of them this year. I would say Cameron Smith again too but it seems rare in golf that we see a guy maintain that level of form 2 seasons in a row.

It was – but McIlroy’s final round of 71 was a moderate effort on that course in the conditions. Of the Top 10, only McIlroy and Hovland scored in the 70s. I think they dragged each other down a level.
Agree about Lowry being a player to watch in the Majors this year. I think his win in the PGA at Wentworth was huge for him and he looks full of confidence. I will probably back him in all the Majors this year. I can certainly see Hoylake suiting his game.
