Dreadful dreadful news. A huge loss to racing and a horse that was unfortunately never given the chance to show his true potential due to injuries.
RIP
November 23, 2012 at 17:46 #420596Been out most of the day and got home only to hear this news. If only he’d not fallen at the weekend as well. Was hoping for some sort of fairytale ending to his comeback. Awful news.
November 23, 2012 at 18:43 #420601Tragic for connections after all their patience; looked like he had retained a lot of his old ability.
November 23, 2012 at 19:07 #420605Absolutely tragic news.
Thoughts go to connections.
RIP Go Native.
November 23, 2012 at 19:23 #420608He looked like he was back to his somewhere near his best at Punchestown. Terrible news, seems as though it was just one of those extremely unlucky, out of the blue incidents
RIPNovember 23, 2012 at 21:36 #420625Awful blow for all connected with him. commiserations to them all.
November 23, 2012 at 22:26 #420627What an awful blow. Noel Meade and his team must have put so much TLC into Go Native to get him back after two years to such a high level.
November 24, 2012 at 01:31 #420644Such sad news, tragic when an accident home on the gallops or in the field take a much loved horse, they are such fragile beings.
God Bless you Go Native and so sorry that you never made it back
The late Paul Mellon wrote a tribute poem for Mill Reef when he died..I would like to add it here:
In loving memory of Go Native
Swift as a bird I flew down many a course,
Princes, Lords, Commoners all sang my praise.
In victory or defeat I played my part.
Remember me, all men who love the Horse,
If hearts and spirits flag in after days;
Though small, I gave my all. I gave my heart."
– Paul Mellon, The Gimcrack Spirit speech 1970

If you ever visit the National Stud at Newmarket the Poem can be found at the foot of the statue of Mill Reef overlooking his old paddock.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 26, 2012 at 21:34 #420964Thanks again Triptych.
