I agree with you on Balcarce Nov at decent odds. Seems to have found his feet over here judged on Haydock form, and Nad Al Sheba runs suggest this one should be competitive at this level. Always helps to be on one from a ‘low profile’ stable against more publicised types.

Lowdown well backed, never in trouble in this maiden. Sheer Force looked temperamental in the paddock, finished last.2:45 Goodwood
11 @ 12/1 Chaperno (4/1)
17 @ 6/1 Dreamspeed (11/2)
-28 points
Chaperno exceptionally well backed, looked dangerous two out but did not look as if he wanted to go through a gap. Dreamspeed never got in to it from a poor draw.3:25 Goodwood
26 @ 7/2 Paco Boy (7/2) 2nd
15 @ 2.4/1 Ghanaati (2/1) 3rd
-41 points
Surprised the favourite was fast enough. Despite the “warnings” from connections, Rip Van Winkle’s price (short and well backed), suggested there was never any major worries of a poor performance.5:45 Goodwood
14 @ 9.5/1 Kings Wonder (6/1)
Makaamen non-runner
-14 points
The selection’s high head carriage suggests a temperament problem. Reduced price more to do with non-runners than market support.2:45 Goodwood

The winner looked in tremendous shape paddock-side, gleaming coat. Mark Johnston’s inconsistent Laa Rayb somehow managed to get the rail from a poor draw. Producing his one and only good run of the year to beat Spectait. But am I bitter?4:00 Goodwood

Very well backed, not get the best of runs up the inside, but would never have reached the short-priced favourite.2:30 Goodwood
7 ew @ 18/1 Brief Encounter (16/1)

Soft going possibly against Brief Encounter. If you excuse the after-timing, did back Zacinto on-course. Could not believe him going out to 7/2.3:25 Goodwood

Biniou more than halved in price, but it was Genki who won. Went around the Beckhampton yard shortly before Royal Ascot. Genki was the only one his pessimistic trainer Roger Charlton seemed to think had a good chance there. Finished last when trainer in poor form. Back in form and at the right trip (7f last time out the week before) emerged from the mizzle to win.3:35 Salisbury

Value Is EverythingAugust 29, 2009 at 02:04 #246306Have worked out both the 2:35 and 3:10 at Goodwood, but there does not seem to be much value there. Will look again in the morning.
Value Is EverythingAugust 29, 2009 at 13:47 #246333Still not much value to be had in the 2:35 and 3:10.
Here are my 100% books:
2:35
Urban Poet 13/8, King Of Wands 7/2, Mourilyan 9/2, Oasis Knight 11/1, Victoria Montoya 14/1, Classic Vintage 14/1, Star Of Pompey any price (below 0.05% 2000/1).Oasis Knight seems the best value there, but can sweat up badly and I want to see whether he’s taken to the visor a second time. So will take a look at him in the paddock before backing him.
3:10
Delegator 20/21, Zacinto 9/4, Cesare 15/1, Mac Love 18/1, Beacon Lodge 22/1, Ordnance Row 80/1, Smokey Oakey 200/1I make Zacinto, Cesare, Beacon Lodge are all marginal value. Allowing for a margin for error, nothing appeals. Hopefully better to be had on-course.
Is a bet in the 4:20.

17 each way @ 9/2 (SJ bog) Baltimore ClipperAlthough he’s bred for the distance, Magic Lantern showed speed at 7f. Poor draw might be overcome if racing prominently again, but will they want to do that going up in trip? Worth taking on.
Baltimore Clipper is improving and looks the obvious sound each way horse, if getting away faster this time.
Treggoning is in fine form and Ilston Lord may be able to improve a lot from debut.
Hope Sandy Shaw does not win this, ran well enough on debut for a yard that has few debutant winners, could improve dramatically. Saw 59/1 on betfair half an hour ago, was too greedy and put up 69/1, ( Not taken) and within 5 mins was down to 14/1…
