Reminded me of the good old days when Godolfin accommodated Frankie boy.

    Dear Reet Hard
Three pacemakers? No good counting me thinks.

Though he was reigned in when his stablemates had established a lead, there is no doubt that SoF was amongst the first 3 in the initial stages.

i’m not sure being in the first three qualifies as a pacemaker. however i could be wrong.also going to the front in the last quarter of a mile to win your race hardly earns one the title of a pacemaker.again i may be wrong.

Define "pacemaker". In this sense, I guess we’re talking about one who is entered in a race simply to set a genuine tempo and nothing else.

There was one pacemaker. Song Of Hiawatha. Macarthur and Soldier Of Fortune will simply part of the gameplan.

I would call the latter two "front-runners".

Call it what you like, but bouncing him out in the front rank and the hauling him back when his stablemates had control of the pace was certainly no accident.
Neither was his sitting at Getaway’s quarters until he was moved up to force G into the rear of Macarthur.
The horse was good enough to win the race on merit anyway, that doesn’t mean one has to like their insurance policies.

I was watching a replay of the race again yesterday and I think Pasqier knew what was happening and was trying to switch Getaway off the rail, but because he was struggling on the track, he was hanging left into the rail.

I find it hard to blame Pasquier too much, either.

The horse looked a bit lacking in ‘tactical speed’ to me.

Getaway looked totally at sea on the track. He’ll look a completely different horse back on a level track.
