Maybe,2yo Naas.11/5/2011.
May 13, 2011 at 15:44 #355267Best of all perhaps is the French filly Galikova, a G3 winner heading for the French Oaks as the likely favourite. Oh, yes, almost forgot, she’s a half sister to Goldikova!

Golden Lilac wins French One Thousand Guineas.
And they said Galileo couldn’t get milers!
More fool them
May 15, 2011 at 18:53 #355582No, what ‘we’ said was that his colts generally aren’t pacy enough, and I still think ‘we’re’ right. Nightime, Lush Lashes and now Golden Lilac have won G1s over a mile and all are sired by Galileo, all fillies.
May 15, 2011 at 20:16 #355596I was replying to a reference to his fillies not his colts so you are off the hook ZARKAVA.Wish I could find the reference. Howevern the fillies sure are fast.So too were New Approach, Teofilo and Frankel; all winners of Group One races as tyos. All three very fast colts.I can’t find a serious weakness in his get unlike Montjeu who’s fillies are next to impossible to train even if Aidan trained one to win a race for M.A.Ryan the owner of FinscealBeo.
May 15, 2011 at 23:30 #355617His % of stakes winners to amount of live foals he sires is 5%. He’s a poor sire, he just gets sent all the amazing mares.

if Galileo is a poor sire you’ll be waiting a lifetime for a good one my friend.
May 16, 2011 at 00:08 #355619Zarkava you could be right but I doubt it.I could never afford to own (or send) a mare that would qualify for such a mission, to Galileo. But those who do are better able to judge Galileo than I am. Their money does the talking for them.

I suppose I’ll have to get comfortable then. You’ve completely misunderstood what I’ve said (it was only 2 sentences, how hard can it be?), but that’s fine, I’m sick and tired of discussing Galileo’s effectiveness as a sire.
May 16, 2011 at 12:45 #355669How anyone doubts Galileo still is beyond me. He gets great mares because he produces Group 1 Sires every year
May 16, 2011 at 15:25 #355701If you had a placed handicapper to breed from (not by Danehill), €250,000 to spend & wanted to get a stakes horse, you just wouldn’t go to Galileo. 5% stakes horses to runners, it’s just so low. He sires brilliant horses, but not that many in relation to the opportunities he gets.
May 16, 2011 at 22:19 #355753Dear Zarkava, a placed handicapper would not be let inside the gates of Coolmore, especially if Galileo does that poorly with Group One mares.
May 16, 2011 at 22:36 #355754Kentucky Warbler, handicap winner off 64 and Alba Stella, handicap winner off 77 were both covered by Galileo in 2010 and their offspring have Derby entries.
May 17, 2011 at 05:33 #355766I guess that explains his "poor" record.I thought he would have to stand on his record with comparable mares attending other champion sires. You know what they say compare like to like. What happens if you compare the half sisters and brothers of the same mares who attended him four years ago? Did they do better with comparable sires?
