Matt Chapman reported from Mewmarket that Teddy Grimthorpe has informed him that Frankel will not run in the Lockinge Stakes. Seemingly, the injury may be worse than "superficial."
Will we see Frankel on a racecourse again ?

April 13, 2012 at 12:20 #400315It’s probably as simple as him having cut himself and they’ve put him on a course of antibiotics as a precaution and as a result they won’t be out of his system by the time of the race.
April 13, 2012 at 13:37 #400333So why a further scan next week? In my opinion there is no such thing as a minor injury that stops work.

I suppose that if you own the best racehorse in the world you might tend to be a bit more cautious than usual about these things.
April 13, 2012 at 15:10 #400348Any excuse to get him to stud with his reputation fully intact.

I don’t buy it. Juddemonte aren’t always shy about keeping their better racehorses in training (Quest For Fame, Banks Hill, Workforce, Midday) and probably have much more to gain by proving he can stay ten furlongs. If your theory is the case, why keep him in training over winter rather then getting him "stuck in" straight away?
As he’s the most valuable asset they have ever had, you can understand why they wouldn’t want to take any undue chances.

Exactly and not the first time this excuse has been used.
Should Frankel be retired that will leave Black Caviar as the undisputed champ, though she’ll probably be retired this year too.
April 13, 2012 at 18:54 #400378What on earth do you want them to do Andy? Run him with an injury?
April 13, 2012 at 19:17 #400383Bad news all round Id say , lets hope we see him again
RFC and those Quipco chaps will be crossing everything as well
lets face it if he retires , a lot of promo material will be washed away and in the short term racing will be the loser
One good thing though , he is in the care of the best trainer in the world , so no stone will be left unturned

April 13, 2012 at 19:27 #400386Or has he just failed to train on……………………..No reports of any wonder workouts this term and he has worked several times this year!
Queue Joni……April 13, 2012 at 20:00 #400389There’s some nonsense on this thread and no mistake.
If Juddmonte wanted to retire Frankel unbeaten after his 3yo campaign, they would have done just that. What do some of above think, its a master plan by all involved to hoodwink everyone in to a planned 4yo campaign before inventing an injury? For what reason?
Come on ffs – its surely terrific for everyone who loves the game that the decision was made not to retire Frankel a-la Zarkava. So why the snide remarks about connections? Jokers.

Given that his scan came up clean, and the Lockinge Stakes is a month away…

Because he’ll miss half the year milling about the yard while fans are strung along in hopes of a matchup that will never happen.
I’ve seen this before. Rachel Alexandra’s 4yo season
April 13, 2012 at 21:03 #400403I know you yanks love a good conspiracy theory, but you are way off base with this one. To even suggest the likes of Sir Henry Cecil are misleading the public (for what reason i still cannot fathom by the way) is pretty outrageous. Maybe Henry shot him from a grassy knoll with a spud gun to cause the injury?
You’ll have humble pie to eat after he scoots up in the Queene Anne.

I didn’t say he was misleading the public. But with stallion prospects it seems owners are less likely to want to rehab a horse from an injury instead of retiring him. With geldings you’ll see horses come back from a year, two years off. If it turns out that Frankel, heaven forbid, has something like a tendon injury, do you really think they’ll keep him in training?
April 13, 2012 at 21:36 #400408If he’s injured he’s injured. Nobody would be more dissapointed than connections i wouldn’t have thought. Connections deserve credit for the intention to continue an absolutely outstanding 3yo’s career – not scorn, cynicism, and sarcasm.

Queue Joni……You would love that to be the case but it isn’t. He has been working as well as ever but hasnt been asked to do too much yet as the Lockinge is still a month away. Had he worked next Friday at Newbury as planned you would have seen him being asked a bit more.
I agree with PC that some of the posters on here are a total joke but it is the usual suspects who, for reasons I will NEVER be able to fathom, clearly couldn’t be happier.
I hope that the huge majority of posters on here who love their racing will join me in crossing their fingers that this magnificent, legendary racehorse makes a full recovery and we see him back on the racecourse for Royal Ascot.
