Probably a reflection of the human trait of assuming everyone is bad until proved otherwise… Which would be apt for this thread.
December 20, 2007 at 08:11 #131287Why do they say ‘bad apples’ and ‘good eggs’ – it should be the other way round shouldn’t it
.A rotten egg is far worse than a rotten apple, whereas a good apple is far better than a good egg.Mike
I believe the history is related to storage of the said goods.
When an egg is bad the badness does not pass to the other stored eggs.
However when you have a barrel of apples, if one apple goes bad it quickly spreads the other apples in the barrel as well.
Ergo a bad apple has a more widespread impactthan a bad egg.
I’m sure Jeremy will correct me if I am wrong on that one.
December 20, 2007 at 08:30 #131289That’s a damn clever chain of thought that is
But never forget KF has a soft boiled egg for a brain
January 25, 2008 at 14:32 #13765018 month ban – as per RP
January 25, 2008 at 14:53 #137651Does that apply to racing everywhere or just France?
I still think its a stiff sentence for what is a recreational drug rather than performance enhancing, but its staggering that he was caught in the way he was
Total idiot
January 25, 2008 at 14:55 #137653Its a worldwide ban.
People have been sent to prison for cocaine possesion before so the man has got off lightly in my view.

It’s important to point out that it was use of a prohibited substance, thought to be cocaine, and not possession of…

I would be surprised if people had been sent to prison for possessing cocaine without "intent to sell" but I stand to be corrected here.
January 25, 2008 at 15:02 #137658Not so sure about that, question is whether he will be back?
I think he will, but not at the very top tables. Hard to imagine him doing anything else.

make a change
been a pretty unappealing character up to now
January 25, 2008 at 15:04 #137660among other things cocaine increases confidence and alertness so it is performance enhancing. as a jockey it would have the added benefit of reducing appetite – if you’re appetite is wanting you would become tired and distracted so a few doses of coke would remedy that nicely on the alertness score
in other sports (snooker) winners have had titles taken away from them when they have been shown to be taking drugs
it’s only ‘recreational’ – hehe – try telling that to the judge if up for a second drink driving charge ….
January 25, 2008 at 15:09 #137662Good points Simon…. and clearly you speak from experience

In reality you are highly unlikely to be sent to prison for Cocaine possession as long as it is less than 1 gram. Any ammount over 1 gram of Cocaine and the police can charge you with possession with intent to supply. Many people have been sent to prison for cocaine possession although these people will have been caught before and recieved cautions etc.
cocaine
CLASS A
AMOUNT CONSIDERED ‘SUPPLY’ 1 gram
MAX PUNISHMENT (supply) life and an unlimited fine
MAX PUNISHMENT (possession) 7 years and an unlimited fine
AVERAGE PUNISHMENT (in reality) 3 years 3 months and £167 fine
CAUTIONED 819
FOUND GUILTY 2,642
IMPRISONED 411
(source: UK Home Office, 1998)our comments the police are hard on cocaine. One drugs unit police officer we spoke to told us that a quantity in the region of one gram would be sufficient grounds to suspect possession with intent to supply.
January 25, 2008 at 15:37 #137669Apologies if I have lost the plot here, but was Fallon found guilty of possession? I was under the assumption that it was use of, and not possession.

You have not lost the plot Mike he was not found guilty of possession. Although if you accept the fact that he used cocaine then he clearly must have been in possession of cocaine before he took it.
He is in no danger of prison as you can not be charged for having it show up in a blood sample. But he was lucky he got caught after he had taken it and not before. Cocaine ruins many peoples lives including innocent children and I wont defend anybody who has anything to do with it even though some of you may just because he was a good jockey.January 25, 2008 at 15:54 #137676Apologies if I have lost the plot here, but was Fallon found guilty of possession? You need to be careful of what you say. If he hasn’t been found guilty of possession of cocaine then I don’t see why this thread should go down this route.
I had a few chips today, but I wasn’t in possession of the bag of chips, they were my girlfriends who put a few in my mouth. I also had some eye drops but I wasn’t in possession of them either, my girlfriend poured them into my eye.
Just a few examples of substances getting into my body without me actually being in possession of them.
