I’m going to throw one dart at this one, in the form of Cornoret 10/1. I missed the boat with Shutter Speed and have no inclination to back her at current prices, and I think neither Rhododendron or Hydrangea will stay the trip, with Pivotal in their pedigree.

Coronet looks bred to stay and both her wins have been convincing enough.

Thanks Joni. My message was actually written earlier but never got sent. It was not until before the race that I checked to see what others thought about it that I noticed it was just hanging in mid air.

Anyway, at least I managed to post it before then race.

It is early days yet but horses like Rhododendron and Fair Eva have some questions at a mile and a half, particularly the Charlton filly.

There are tons of fillies in the Oaks betting that you can safely put a pen through right now, Not a snowballs chance in hell for them.

Mori is still in the betting and there is not an atom of a chance that she will even run in the race. Unbelievably, some have her shorter than the Gosden filly who crapped on her from a high height today, with Gracious Diana as high as 33/1 and Mori 25/1 in places. That’s nonsense.

The obvious question becomes how Shutter Speed sits with Coronet in the Gosden pecking order?

As I have said, the Zetland stakes has been won by some real dour stayers in the past. Coronet looks to be assured to stay a mile and a half but the old saying is that “If you are sure you have have enough stamina for Epsom, then you’ve almost certainly got too much”

We saw with Minding last year that it was her speed that saved the day after Moore had managed to get her trapped. A pure 12F filly would never have recovered the lost ground in time. To my eyes Shutter Speed looks the quicker and classier type. I would expect Coronet to go for one of the mile and a half trials and Shutter Speed to go the shorter Musidora route.

I have seen Talaayeb tipped up but she needs to take a massive step forward for stepping up in trip this year. The maiden she won has worked out awfully. Only one horse from that maiden has won from 25 subsequent runs and that was a Chelmsford maiden won off a 78 rating. Talaayeb has tons to prove at 20/1 for the Oaks.

I feel Shutter Speed will go off favourite for the Oaks.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Interesting comments about Talaayeb. I was planning to back her big for the guineas but now you’ve said the form is rancid I’m having second thoughts.

The horse could be anything but it looks like she beat a poor bunch. You really want to see some of those in behind coming out and winning to make the form look sound. I am sure people who have punted her ante-post have been groaning at every turn as the 1/25 record has tallied up.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Does anybody know when Luca Cumani’s Frankel filly Aljezeera reappears as she screamed Oaks after her Donny run – worried that Luca is not known for having his horse ready early

I have a small bet on her at 33/1 for the Oaks. The stable are just getting going and although no winners, they have had three seconds from their last 11 runners. No entries yet but if Aljazeera is going to take up her Oaks entry I would expect to see her in the next couple of weeks. I would say Chester or Lingfield would be the most likely places to see her running.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Typical, Just talking about Luca Cumani and checking his form, I saw Banksea was running for him. I wanted to take Chelsea Lad on at 7/2 after his 11 months absence. Didn’t have the time to get the bet on and watching the race Banksea comes with a withering late run to win at 9/1.

The news isn’t good on that front Hein.

In a recent interview Gosden stated that Coronet’s target is the Prix Saint-Alary in France. That race is in the middle of May and that’s leaving it tight for the Oaks.

Gosden explained that recent winner Gracious Diana is to be aimed at the Ribblesdale, rather than the Oaks.

The trainer also revealed that Shutter Speed heads to the Musidora next and he added that:-

“Shutter Speed is a good filly and has always looked our best middle-distance three-year-old filly. She ran well last year when it was soft and we are heading towards the Musidora at York with her.”

Mentions were given regarding Astronomy’s Choice and Precious Ramotswe, both fillies are set to run in the Pretty Polly at the Guineas meeting.

Finally Gosden confirmed Dabayah is heading to Deauville and Daban to Newmarket. The reason was given that there was no point in the owner taking himself on.

It looks like Coronet won’t be heading to Epsom and that’s all the more reason to get into Shutter Speed ASAP. I have backed her again at 8/1, because the market will eventually wake up and see that she is going to be no bigger than 4/1 if she lands the Musidora and she could be ultra short if Rhododendron is beaten in the Guineas.

That Oaks list will melt in iceberg fashion over the coming weeks, with just the tip left.

In again on Shutter Speed for me at 8/1.

Sorry it wasn’t better news but Coronet just seems set to swerve her more regarded stable companion.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Thank you Botchy, my tongue is hanging already for this  .
What is your opinion the the Oaks, are you also on Shutter Speed?
Maybe Mr. Caution is wrong on the Gosden horses  , I’ll stick to Coronet anyway..

Sorry Steve, I had written my answer to Botchy just before I read yours.
This is really quite bad news on Coronet, and maybe Shutter Speed is really superior to her, but at list I’LL wait for Coronet’s reappearance, maybe then I will agree with you..

They are Gosden’s thoughts Hein. This is not me speculating. The article was published just this afternoon, so it’s up to date.

    This is the link:-

    http://www.skysports.com/racing/news/12426/10850379/john-gosden-mapping-out-path-to-classic-riches

It’s good to see a trainer give out early information like this. With Aidan O’Brien you will be lucky to find out half an hour before the races. John is a man of integrity in the main I feel. He’s a realist and not a hype merchant. With Ricci and Mullins you can’t believe a word they tell you.

I saw Gosden get some stick for being less than confident about Daban but there is no way he could have expected that Roly Poly, Brave Anna and Sea Of Grace would all run so poorly and that the French filly would never really get into the race.

It’s up to punters to make their own minds up but I feel it is going against clear information to back Coronet at 10/1 for the Oaks, when Gosden and the owner have discussed it and decided to go to France.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Thank you Steve for providing this useful information :good: !
I absolutely agree with you on Mr. Gosden, I like him and his 4legged trainees very much and I hope he will go on to have such a great year as it started for him.
I wished he would run both horses in the Oaks, but if he really sees Shutter Speed much better and decides for one, I must accept this.
Who would ride Shutter Speed in the Oaks then, will it be Frankie or Buick?

Thanks for that news Steve. Laid off my Coronet Oaks bet @ 14.0 for a free bet. Prix Alary is a Group 1 race also so not really a Trial.
