I backed Taghrooda and Inchila, wouldn’t blame Spencer. Apparently plan was to make the running but dwelt in the gate. Jamie did well to initially find his way through the field on the inner. Saw an opening between Volume and Tarfasha, but immediately he went for it the gap closed. Had to pull back and try again up the inner. Just failing to snatch second. Don’t know if it’s possible to blame second or third’s rider for "interference". Just unlucky 4th; Inchila just second best horse on the day.
That’s probably fair comment Ginger, although I think, admittedly with hindsight, that he could have decided to go either side of the two as he was travelling so well. Like I said, I like Spencer, and he normally is very good coming with hold up horses, it just didn’t work out today. I’ve taken a few deep breaths and moved on…..I hope Kieren or Ryan can do me a turn in tomorrows Derby.
June 6, 2014 at 16:43 #481303Congratulations Steve Caution and
Taghrooda
.Never in doubt, she hit the front and stayed there.Brilliant bit of foresight from a good judge, the alarm bells were ringing all week with the drift in the market but Class prevailed.Todays result sums up why when you make a decision you just cant be influenced by anything.Brilliant winner. 33/1 Ante-Post vouchers for someone who who had the bottle, celebrate with one Steve.
Cheers Gord, I’ll have a few bottles of nice wine tonight and will break out the hard stuff (Bourbon) tomorrow, if Western Hymn can pull off the double for me. I’m not confident though and neither is Gosden, who has pegged it a one horse race. I’ll take a place though, as I have had a rare each-way on top of my earlier win bet.
Marvellous was nine lengths ahead of Palace last time but only a short head today and that tells its own story. Joseph reckons the race came too soon for her and that is my pet hate excuse because it’s not as if they sneaked the Oaks forward by a week.
Taghrooda is 10/1 for The St Leger now, with Western Hymn introduced as the 6/1 favourite with Paddy Power, the sole bookies offering odds at the moment. Australia is 8/1 but will he stay the trip?
The market will look very different this time tomorrow.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 7, 2014 at 07:35 #481395The Irish Oaks is being mentioned as her next race. If that is the target unless she runs into extreme conditions it will be a big surprise if she is unduly troubled to maintain her unbeaten record.
What next? I would have thought a nice break before finding a suitable trial for the Arc. If I had an unbeaten filly as short as 12/1 for an Arc I wouldn’t have the Leger on my mind. Yesterday she travelled like a dream and it was near enough a faultless performance. Why would you even want to consider stepping her up in trip? It is a long way down the road but if she was in pole position turning in at Longchamp even the likes of an on-song Treve might find it pretty difficult to reel her in.
June 7, 2014 at 08:52 #481418Taghrooda has the class but won the Oaks by her speed and at one point a little free. Not a stayer for my money. Price illustrates she’s a doubtful runner.
Gosden has other staying types, Western Hymn and Romsdal just two. Latter would be a better Leger bet at around 20/1, with owners Sheikh Mo and Princess Hiya also keen on the race.
