Having looked at the race again, it maybe Shirocco Star at fault for The Fugue’s problems. In which case should placings of second and third have been reversed?
Dont be a Dick Ginge, Darryl Holland rode a perfect race under the circumstances.Mark my words
Shirocco Star
will beat all in Ireland when a truer gallop will be set!
June 2, 2012 at 11:02 #406393Unless an objection was lodged then I doubt the Stewards would have considered it. Subsequently Mr Buick tried to go for a non existent gap between Betterbetterbetter and Coquet. All in all, he did not cover himself in glory. With several jockeys riding moderate races, until proven otherwise, I think it is safest to say that the best horse on the day won.
Buick didn’t "go for a non existent gap" He was already in the gap when it closed. Had Buick not taken a pull he’d have ended up on the floor.

If the winner and The Fugue meet in the Irish Oaks I’d make The Fugue favourite. Therefore, I think it is "safest" NOT "to say the best horse won on the day".

If both fillies meet in Ireland, who will start at shorter odds Gord? There’s no way it will be Shirocco Star. Morrison’s filly was suited by the run of the race yesterday. As you say yourself, "Holland rode the perfect race", travelled well and had a much better position for the sprint for home than Buick, who he only just beat. Come on Gord, your race reading skills are better than that. Don’t start following horses over cliffs again.
Certainly nice to see Darryl back in the big time yesterday.

It will be interesting to see how the layers price that up if it happens. After all, Carlton House was heavily backed to reverse the Epsom form last year. I know fillies are generally less consistent than colts but you have no evidence that The Fugue could have won on that track yesterday.

"NO evidence"! What?
There is a lot of evidence EF. In slowly run races it is prominent runners who have an advantage. The Fugue got hampered and as a consequence dropped back towards the back of the field. Afterwards, Buick should have got closer sooner, before the sprint for home. Was got all the breaks, prominent early, went the shortest way around and the gaps appeared. You can disagree that the evidence is not conclusive if you want to EF, but there is PLENTY of "EVIDENCE".Value Is EverythingJune 2, 2012 at 21:19 #406505Was had the tactical speed to take a good position and slip through on the inside. I also think she won a shade cosily and had something in hand. I beive she will confirm the placings when these fillies meet again
June 3, 2012 at 14:31 #406645On another post Cormack suggested that a new group of jockeys were coming to the fore.I believe that the Oaks disproves that theory.Heffernan rode the lights out of the young turks. And he would admit he is no superstar.
