One Ruler’s best two runs have been on soft and heavy, Jack. Hasn’t run on good-soft, only fair on good and disappointed on good-firm. When form seems to show a liking for soft ground and a pronounced knee / rounded action… probably doesn’t matter what the dam or sire liked.

True One Ruler is not sure to stay and (on that front) good-soft might turn out to be ideal – not that it will be normal good-soft. If they’re right about the surface being firm underneath there will only be a few horses truly enjoying the surface.

Clerk of course, probably not very popular on here has said, him and CA had a chat and compared today to Masar’s win in 2018, where it had been soft for Wild Illusion’s 2nd the day before in the Oaks. 23degree and went off the slow side of good, so we will see.

    Yep i read that GT.

He beat good horses in his maiden on good whereas i think Mac Swiney really needs its proper soft. I think One Ruler wants some give, but not necessarily really soft. He didn’t run all that badly on G/F at Newmarket on his reappearance, not sure we can call that an outright disappointment.

Adayar should be fine. He looked like he didn’t handle Lingfield though so curious decision to run at Epsom imo

TTC I support hibs who didn’t win the Scottish cup for 114 years so know a fair bit of not being a glory hunter type. I’d love an underdog to win but is there really such a thing in racing at the top table where guys like haggis and Varian have horses costing eye watering amounts. Ron sheather with chief singer was one of my fav stories in racing. Doubt we’ll see that again but would love it if it happened.

I can see Godolphin trying to make it a true test of stamina to see if bb and Mac Swiney stay but I think that will only set it up for bb. There looks to be a great covering of grass on the course so if it does dry then it won’t suit those needing soft ground. Bb with hurricane lane and southern lights running on for a place.

Haha fair play Mickey. I think Gear Up might go forward, but as you say Godolphin won’t want a crawl with Hurricane Lane appearing likely to be one of the stronger stayers of the fancied horses. Will be good of Charlies lads to set it up for Youth Spirit.

2m 09.73s in a well-run race (finishing speed % very close to par) is indicative of GOOD TO SOFT going.

It is, as expected, quicker than yesterday (about 34 lb quicker), but it was more like soft than good to soft by the end 24 hours ago.

The only problem for Godolphin is one ruler might be their best chance of winning and might be sacrificed and bb come on past. There won’t be many excuses re the ground. I think it will come down to who stays the best. We shall see. Bb looked superb on weds I think it was and if he gets beat it won’t be for fitness. He looked ready to go on Wednesday hence the reason the lads decided just to go with him.

Someone on racing tv said their man’s times analysis indicated between good and good to soft ground at the moment
