I did not exclude him lightly GT, and I was impressed LTO. Pulled hard but still got the job done at HQ, not a straightforward track, and will relish a strong gallop if there is one.

June 3, 2021 at 16:56 #1543244I was not writing of what you think, TTC.
Cork All Star “The one I cannot have is John Leeper” and Mickeyjp “John Leeper looks to me to have zero chance”.Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2021 at 17:05 #1543246would you have him shorter ginger, do you think he’s priced up based on how far he won last race rather then how far he could’ve won if he wasn’t very keen?
June 3, 2021 at 17:52 #1543257John Leeper is a poor price on the form he’s shown so far, Istabraq… But could be a good price on potential. That said, his potential in the Derby depends greatly on whether he settles… And that means whether he is value or not is extremely difficult to quantify unless you’re in the know – knowing how he’s settling at home. Am reluctant to take what connections may say on that subject, every owner, trainer and jockey prior to the Derby will always say the horse is settling well at home and they’re confident he’ll do the same at Epsom.
When the horse has pulled so much at a shorter distance, I can’t really see many tipsters going for him, but then again now Frankie rides could be the public horse. All in all probably best to wait and take a price in running – even if it’s a lot shorter – at least then we’ll know if he’s pulling and /or if pace is going to suit a (definite) hold up horse.
Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2021 at 17:56 #1543258If Dettori wins I’ll be turning the TV off immediately. Cannot take his hyperactive toddler act again, which he would no doubt ramp up a few hundred percent due to the John Dunlop naming sob story. Horrendous.
What sort of a middle name is ‘Leeper’ anyway?

June 3, 2021 at 18:17 #1543265What sort of name is any name, TTC?
“Leeper” probably comes from an old english name for a basket maker. Just as my name is probably old english for a trader.
Can’t see why anyone should be judged on their name anyway.
I briefly met John Leeper Dunlop a few times and he was always a gent. I know it isn’t much to judge anyone on, but he even allowed us inside the horse’s stable for a closer look at his best horses – something no other trainer has done. The thing that really does matter is his record made John Leeper Dunlop a great trainer. imo Be great if a horse named after him wins the Derby.
Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2021 at 18:19 #1543266Not judging anyone man, hold your horses! Leeper is one strange name around my neck o’t woods, thats all.

June 3, 2021 at 18:29 #1543267I am an introvert, but got no problem with Frankie celebrating in frankiestyle. Each to his own.
Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2021 at 18:32 #1543270Each to their own, but it boils my urine and is a complete put-on camera show IMO. Cannot abide the bloke.

June 3, 2021 at 18:44 #1543272For me, “each to their own” and “cannot abide the bloke” don’t go together tbh ttc. If we were all the same then things would be boring. We both haven’t got a clue why Frankie is how he is, it could be “look at me”, but also could be a perfectly natural reaction. So I’ll give him the benefit…
And I enjoy seeing extrovert people enjoying themselves anyway.Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2021 at 18:47 #1543273Course they do – each to their own opinion my Ginger mate. You cannot like everyone.
Anyway, back to my rain dance for Youth Spirit…..

June 3, 2021 at 19:48 #1543291As long as he keeps riding winners when I back the horses hes on he can do whatever he likes after the race as far as I’m concerned
June 3, 2021 at 20:42 #1543294Interesting tactically in that Ballydoyle removing the other runners probably removes the prospect of a strong gallop here, one or two of their less fancied hopes tend to make the running. It probably suits Balshoi Ballet more than a lot of his main rivals in that he’s evidentially got a nice turn of foot for a middle distance colt and he tends to race quite handily, he doesn’t need a strong test at this trip by any stretch of the imagination. I just hate his price, we’ve seen the track beat plenty of good horses down the years and that alone will always be a question mark.
If you think of the other potential pace angles, Mac Swiney is far from certain to stay so isn’t going to go off at a mad pace… I can’t see many others who are out and out front runners. I just wonder if a bit like in the Newmarket classic Godolphin might use their numbers and utilise Adayar as a pace angle? He probably needs a good test more than any other in the lineup so it wouldn’t exactly jeopardise his chances.
I’m concerned about John Leeper being ready for this and I’m not at all sold on Mohaafeth winning those Newmarket races on the bridle he’s not had a proper battle at this sort of level yet. You can’t win a Derby on the bridle. I do like Third Realm but that Lingfield trial probably wasn’t up to much and he’s badly drawn to boot. Youth Spirit does look very overpriced but can I see him having the class to win this? Probably not.
The obvious one is Hurricane Lane and he should be 2nd maybe 3rd favourite depending on your view of Mac Swiney. I’ve heard a few say he’ll be too slow for this and maybe they are correct but factually his win over Maximal was a steadily run affair that turned into a sprint that he ultimately prevailed in. Maximal is going back in trip to a mile for the Diomed Stakes on Saturday so connections clearly don’t see him as being a boat. He got outpaced in the Dante but so did pretty much everything else against the well ridden Roman Empire, again he showed enough speed to get himself back into contention and then a really nice attitude to get the win. I rate the form quite highly I think Magellan will be a force to be reckoned with in Group 1’s over 10F this season. He’s got a lovely pedigree and he’s unbeaten, he doesn’t pull, he’s another that will be happy sitting near the pace and really there’s not much to be knocked and I’m very surprised he’s available at 9/1 in plenty of places.
June 3, 2021 at 21:02 #1543298Loads of folk tipping on potential rather than likely improvement. While it’s impossible to say which horse will come forward the most from its last run Bolshoi ballet won very easily the last day and is just as likely to come on very well since his last run. Hurricane lane has to be respected and I think third realm must have a squeak. The rest I’m struggling to get enthused about.
June 3, 2021 at 21:12 #1543300Hurricane Run would win this on the bit Mickey!

June 3, 2021 at 21:58 #1543310I’ve almost typed Hurricane Run every time I’ve thought about Hurricane Lane.
