Darren,
just read your initial post again – !
Hope you haven’t laid off.
Baxta54 – agree quoting lacking class is ambiguous. I should have just said I don’t think he is good enough. My reasoning is that I don’t think he will stay and his form so far just does not scream Derby winner to me.
Basically, I just don’t think the step up in trip will bring about sufficient improvement to make him a genuine player in the Derby.
May 30, 2011 at 05:41 #357875I’ve finally committed to a horse – Roderic O’Connor. I’ve had a look through his profile and actually the only trend he breaks is that his debut RPR was extremely low – just 78. Should he win, his debut RPR would be higher only than Kris Kin’s.
I don’t believe for one second any of the opposition are bombproof.
I’ve backed at 30s, obviously with the possibility he’ll miss Epsom altogether, but I think it’s worth the gamble with the field looking downright dreadful.
DOH!!
May 30, 2011 at 10:32 #357911Prefer the Oaks as a betting medium but at this late stage have had a little each-way on Memphis Tennessee in the market without the favourite. Although he was well beaten by Recital that was a step forward and he shaped as if the extra two furlongs would be a plus. Only negative appeared to be the reaction to the whip. Hopefully, O’Brien will ride again. It looks a very average renewal and it wouldn’t be such a surprise if one or more outsiders filled the frame. The form on paper of the Dante doesn’t appear to amount to a great deal given the proximity of the third and it could easily be that the trial win of the second favourite has been over-hyped.

Wants to throw his lot in with O’Brien. Being touted for Recital.

O’Brien jockey bookings now confirmed:-
May 30, 2011 at 17:20 #357970Every year we get this "average renewal" rubbish. These horses are just turned three – give them a chance! I happen to think that in CH, Seville, Carlton House and Pour Moi there is plenty of quality.

May 30, 2011 at 19:09 #357987Murtagh booked for Native Khan
May 30, 2011 at 19:48 #357994I am really looking forward to the Derby as with any other year. People may say it doesn’t look a great race, but its the expectations you may have for your choice which makes it such an intriguing race.
I really like Recital, I thought his Derrinstown was very impressive, like a lot of Montjeus he showed a quirky side by hanging in the last couple of furlongs. I think there is still a mountain of improvement to come from him, and I he would be my pick at the prices.

May 30, 2011 at 21:58 #358005Find it interesting that Murtagh is on Native Khan and Fallon on Recital, very sticky indeed. Still can not see past Carlton House. Except Seville to be second, Native Khan third, more detail write up later on in the week.

Coolmore usually send what they regard as their best horse to the Derby, and that they have called in the French horse speaks volumes for how they regard the chance of their others.
Pour Moi was quite impressive in his trial, running green before mowing down the rest of the field wihout being asked a serious question. Although he’s bound to improve on that run, he’ll need to – considerably – as those behind weren’t the greatest bunch. Whether that entitles him to beat Carlton House is open to question (another who ran green, and looks certain to find much improvement) though he should certainly prove at least second best.May 31, 2011 at 12:30 #358057Carlton House drifts to 5/2 on Betfair (15/8 on high street) having suffered slight setback
May 31, 2011 at 13:49 #358060It is looking ominous for Carlton House ante post backers. I can see him being withdrawn.
Fortunately for me, I secured NRNB when taking the odds for Carlton House.
