The outcome of the 2007 2000 Guineas will surely be decided on Sunday at the Curragh when Holy Roman Emperor and Teofilo go head to head. Whoever wins this one will surely trot up at HQ next Spring.
Won’t they?
September 15, 2006 at 12:25 #77218To keep the boxing analogies going Teofilo is the real deal. Am really looking forward to seeing him take on HRE. Eagle Mountain certainly upheld the form last Saturday and I’ll be backing him at odds against in what certainly looks a match race.
September 15, 2006 at 13:40 #77219I disagree Cormack. HRE may not train on in my opinion, and you are forgetting the competiton this side if the Irish Sea. I expect Teofilo to win and deal a knockout blow to HRE’s chances, and whilst he will be a leading contender, a certain horse called Strategic Prince will give you a run for your money (I’m sure Stoute will have a coupl and Godolphin too).
September 15, 2006 at 14:30 #77220I expect HRE to win this comfortably but I do not think he will win the Guineas.
September 15, 2006 at 16:46 #77221Between Strategic Prince and Teofilo for me.
September 15, 2006 at 17:17 #77222Way too early to be picking Guineas winners IMO.
September 15, 2006 at 17:18 #77223Just my opinion EC based on pedigree, trainer comments and physical view of the colt.
September 15, 2006 at 17:19 #77224The winner is very likely to be the winter favourite for the Guineas…………….but winner??!!??

September 15, 2006 at 21:37 #77225Being a Ballydoyle maniac, would love to see HRE win on Sunday and then at HQ next spring.
But come on! It’s early September! We’ve got 2 more months to uncover a load more 2yos – Ballydoyle have got around 50 unraced 2yos, with the majority having brilliant breeding. If I had to pick one to follow – Friendly Giant.
We’ve also got Trinity College, who I just think was stepped up in quality way too soon – the Futurity came just 18 days after his maiden. Give him another chance.
Eagle Mountain has looked very, very good so far – he has been beaten very narrowly twice over 7f in top races. Don’t forget Rock of Gibraltar got beat in the Champagne as well, so I wouldn’t write off Eagle Mountain yet.
September 15, 2006 at 22:47 #77226Have to disagree strongly with those that suggest Teofilo looks in need of further. He ran a very fast time despite pulling over course and distance last time, quickened over 2 lengths clear over 1f out and was pushed all the way to the line by the strong stayer as he idled. I agree he’s bred to stay beyond 1m, but I really don’t think he needs further at present.
September 18, 2006 at 10:01 #77227Still think he looks a little slow Trackside?
September 18, 2006 at 20:21 #77228Ive backed Teofilo at 25s for the 2007 derby but have backed the chapple-hyam horse HAMOODY at 33s for the 2000 guineas. Only fun bets though, as next years races are nothing to put the house on.
I’ve backed Teofilo on his debut against an odds on red rock canyon and have cfollowed him ever since but i didnt think he could beat HRE at 7f at this stage of the season, and with his smart middle distance pedigree im hopeful that he’ll be unstoppable next year at middle distances.
I think the 12-1 on him for epsom is still good value as it only represents him staying uninjured till next june, the chances of a smarter middle distance horse appearing between now and next year are very slim. I reckon that a step up to 1 mile for the criterium international would be ideal as he could just be switched off and then destroy them in the final few furlongs.
Teofilo has everything you could want from a horse and i wouldnt be surprised if he gets bolger a ticket into coolmore or a horrific offer of money from them.
HAMOODY is a horse who didnt impress many when he pulled every inch of the richmond stakes, but hes highly strung and such horses never want to see a lot of daylight early, i was very impressed with both of his starts to date and im hoping hes still well as he looks to have massive scope for improvement if switching off next time out. Everything has been quiet with him but hopefully he’ll return for the dewhurst.
October 16, 2006 at 11:59 #3169Not sure whether I completely agree with them but the Bolger yard have indicated that next month’s Grand Criterium is on the cards for Teofilo provided the ground is good.
October 16, 2006 at 12:40 #80081
Corm,
At least he doesn’t have to plan a meeting with the owner’s racing manager to discuss future plans – unless of course he likes talking to himself.
I’m all in favour – when your horse is fit and well, send him to the races. Who knows what might happen between now and next April and personally I reckon the more experience you can give them before the Classics, the better.

October 16, 2006 at 12:52 #80082The Criterium International Corm. JB really must feel that Teofilo enjoys his racing. The RP quotes him as saying "those Group 1s are sweet". I agree AP – I guess if he has come back from Newmarket in good form and he enjoys his racing then why not? He seems like a tough nut. There is a long way to go to next May – a lot can happen between now and then. Only just saw the Dewhurst video last night. I was impressed with Teofilo but was equally impressed with HRE. While Teofilo perhaps won a little comfortably, if possible to win comfortably by a head, Kinane left HRE with an unbelievable amount of ground to make up with 2f to run especially considering he lost his momentum when he got squeezed and fell back to last place. Great performances from both horses and what a brilliant race! ÂÂÂ
October 16, 2006 at 13:00 #80083Apologies if this was in the RP, but Bolger was quoted in yesterday’s Sunday Independent (Irish) that we wouldn’t see the best of Teofilo until he races over either 10f or 12f.
October 16, 2006 at 13:31 #80084Probably doesnt matter, but when did a top 3 year old last run 6 times at two?
