I think he will just as likely turn up in the US for a prep for the Classic, the Travers Stakes is on 24 August which would rule out the Juddmonte on 21 August but there is no guarantee that York will have quick ground and quite clearly on soft ground he is very vunerable so races like the Arc and/or Champion Stakes are clearly non starters and maybe even the Irish Champion Stakes too.
AR is likely for the BC Turf so the Classic would likely be his only BC option especially if he takes to the dirt. I know the Japan Cup has been mentoned for AR but with the ground (good to firm and even firm) more often than not, that would be right in COT’s favour.
One thing we know for sure is that they will have to avoid soft ground whereever they go.
July 6, 2024 at 16:20 #1701078I judge every horse on what they’ve done before, Nathan. A lot of the time I can excuse what’s happened in a race because of what the horse has done in other races.
The only possible viable excuse for not winning impressively is the ground. But it is at least disconcerting about how he won the race compared to previously.

I agree with that but he was 1/4 against a lot of Group 3 types. If he is the superstar Coolmore would have us believe, he should not have to work that hard to defeat that lot. And as Ginger said, all his other victories have been visually impressive.
As for future targets, I know he has the dirt pedigree and Coolmore would like to make him appealing to American breeders but I cannot see him beating battle hardened dirt horses. If he was mine, it would be the International, Irish Champion and BC Turf.
July 6, 2024 at 16:33 #1701080Doubt we will get the chance to find out but is he better than Auguste Rodin ? I would say no at the moment
July 6, 2024 at 16:34 #1701081CAS – That would be the obvious route but based on what we saw today it will be in the lap of the weather gods, if we have a dry Autumn and he gets nothing slower than good ground but………British weather and all that.
July 6, 2024 at 16:38 #1701082Watched on my mobile out shopping..want to have a proper look when I get home as it was bad picture.
Well done to those who got the forecast.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 6, 2024 at 17:00 #1701090It is possible the second and third improved. I would not call them “Group 3” opponents.
Al Riffa ran poorly on very firm ground in the States… And as I said before the race, ran a personal best on penultimate start in the Ganay. That was a standout and I thought there was a chance he’d been flattered. But maybe the opposite, came from further back than those who beat him… And a PB as a 4 year old, so possible showed more improvement here. Had also won the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien his previous run on very soft ground.
Take Ghostwriter’s France run out and his form is progressive.
Value Is EverythingJuly 6, 2024 at 18:26 #1701100Time will tell but he won. Onto next race. I wonder if they pondered pulling him out on the ground.
July 6, 2024 at 23:24 #1701126He looked like he was just doing enough. Personally I thought the sparkle was missing, he looked tired and he drifted towards the finish.
Maybe winning thd Derby took a lot more out of him than we thought.
Ryan Moore earnt his fee today, brilliant riding.
See The Fire ran to her best but was up against it with the colts. Look forward to seeing her back taking on the fillies again next time she runs. She certainly relished the extra distance.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 7, 2024 at 10:14 #1701143He just wasn’t enjoying himself and pulled up quickly which isn’t him. Don’t think the Derby took that much out of him. Maybe after the line did.🤣 Could be he’s just a much better horse at 12f but that’s not what breeders want unfortunately.
July 7, 2024 at 10:20 #1701144Ryan certainly is a superb jockey. His steering of cot was tremendous jockeyship.
July 8, 2024 at 13:41 #1701240It wasn’t Ryan’s steering, Mickey. The horse wandered to his right, nothing Ryan could do about it.
