what an earth are the arabs thinking of by staging the dubai world cup during the build up to the grand national?
hardly anyone gives a toss about flat racing these days anyway let alone this time of year.March 27, 2013 at 11:04 #434102Don’t they have it at the end of March every year?
10 million dollars for the World Cup alone. Dubai not my cup tea but I give a toss about the flat as do many others. The Grand National is a whole week away, don’t see the problem.
Looks like another jumps vs flat thread……

March 27, 2013 at 11:13 #434103The Dubai World Cup has been held on the last Saturday in March since inauguration in 1996
This has frequently corresponded with The Lincoln and will do so again this year due to the latter’s rescheduling
Not a bad way to kick-off the Flat is it?
Hope that helps
March 27, 2013 at 11:48 #434109Things any sane, rational people could not possibly give a stuff about** (in order, natch):
Anything by Dan Brown
Guinea-Bissau Tax Policy (1987-1992)
The Eurovision Song-Contest Semi-Final
Crown Green Bowls from Lichfield
The Kardashians
Jaws 4: The Revenge
"Miliband: The Story So Far"
The Dubai World CupMike
**That might be slightly subjective
March 27, 2013 at 13:21 #434115Hardly anyone gives a toss about flat racing? Get a grip come on
March 27, 2013 at 13:52 #434118Unless Run,,,was taking the mick ….he must be regarded as imbecile material …..

That’s true zzzzzz
March 27, 2013 at 15:28 #434125Yes Phil you are right , the reason is , 70 per cent of racing from Nov to and including April is made up of low class dross aw flat racing ….6 months of wall to wall rubbish , cartoon racing is more appealing
No wonder folks lose interest
imo

March 27, 2013 at 20:17 #434149There has to be some reason why ATR/RUK insist on showing any of this Dubai stuff, even when it interferes with the UK coverage. Probably something to do with the money that has been channeled into British racing from that part of the world over the last 20 years or so.
If there’s no UK/Irish racing, no problem, but personally I’d rather watch a repeat of Starsky and Hutch (preferably series 1 or 2).
Same goes for any other artificial "betting opportunity", Lincoln trial? Winter Derby? Yawn

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
March 29, 2013 at 09:20 #434236So on a forum for race fans there is a thread saying there is no interest in Dubai World Cup night. Even tongue in cheek I find it strange.
36 European horses including top class British/Irish horses such as St Nicholas Abbey, Spirit Quartz, Sole Power, I’m A Dreamer, Planteur, Red Cadeaux, Gordon Lord Byron, Imperial Monarch etc.
They are taking on really good horses from around the globe including Breeders’ Cup winners Royal Delta and Little Mike plus Japan Cup winner Gentildonna, Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, Cox Plate winner Ocean Park etc. Add in the cream of Godolphin and Mike de Kock’s string and all the world’s star jockeys (including our own Ryan Moore, Richard Hughes, William Buick, Paul Hanaghan, Jamie Spencer, Silvestre de Sousa, Kieren Fallon, Mikhael Barzalona, Hayley Turner etc), what is not to like if you’re a racing fan?
I’m not interested in the jumping v flat argument as I love jumping and can’t wait for Aintree but everything has it’s place in the calendar.

Surely it can’t be that surprising. If everyone liked every type of racing and had broadly the same opinion there would be no point in a forum in the first place.

March 29, 2013 at 10:32 #434243Clashing with 6 British & 1 Irish meeting throughout Saturday afternoon is not ideal. It will get little attention from the 2 racing channels as well as from viewers compared to what Dubai receives the majority of the time earlier in the year when it gets plenty of airtime.

Could not agree more! Can’t wait – some excellent racing.
Can’t quite work out how it interferes with NEXT week’s Grand National. Some people just post any old rubbish don’t they.

Which speaks volumes about the morality of those who take part in the event.
They are more interested in trying to grab as much money as possible and kow-towing to Sheik Mo and his cohorts.
Meydan is simply the plaything of an unelected dictator who has an appalling record on human rights.
It is the UAE equivalent of an ostentatious Essex chav’s house, although in this instance it also has the blood of those who built the course working in virtual slave conditions.
Personally I find the whole Meydan circus obscene in the extreme.
what is not to like if you’re a racing fan?
So racing fans should disregard moralities just because it happens to be jolly good racing?

Oh get over yourself. Where would racing be without Sheik Mo?
I take it you won’t watch any races in which he has involvement then?

There would still be racing without him. There was racing before he came along there will be racing when he’s gone
I take it you won’t watch any races in which he has involvement then?

That’s a pathetic comment – there is no comparison.
March 29, 2013 at 17:21 #434285Paul,
if you want to talk human rights, Amnesty holds the UK responsible for way more atrocities than anything ever done by the UAE:
http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/ … 01/2013/en
and that refers to real atrocities like murdering, maiming, raping, forcing to flee – not the preachy inventions / perversions of the term as under the UK /New Labour 1998 Act.
