Still wouldn’t surprise me if MD’s aimed for the Arkle. He’s got plenty of gears and he showed that with the way he travelled today.
Jessies Dream is a very decent horse in his own right. Elliot has always said he’s the best he’s ever trained by a long way.
December 15, 2010 at 17:32 #332757Wasn’t a bad fall for Mikael D’Haguenet, fortunately, and like others have stated above, he fell when he was actually placing his feet, rather than giving the fence a good hammering.
A very classy prospect.
December 15, 2010 at 17:33 #332759Very much so Imperial regarding Jessie’s Dream but MD was in a different Parish(so to speak) to the rest. He simply is far too classy for the likes of them.
I think the Arkle is a Mugs Option for Mullins IMO….he have probaly one more run before the Festival and 2 the max and i would not fancy backing him over a very quick 2miles on that tight festival track. Leave him for the 3 mile….let him jump safe and sound and win. Summer off and straight to the King George in 2011

I’d prefer to see him campaigned over two miles with a view to the future. It worked for the likes of Kicking King and War Of Attrition. That RSA is a brutal race and it can leave its mark on a horse. Today was the first day I’ve seen Cooldine travel and jump with a bit of zest and enthusiasm since March 2009.
A beginners chase in a few weeks and then onto the Morairty would seem to be the obvious route now.

As the guy above said i think he’ll be a good King George horse.
Off topic, Kempes finished 3rd in a 2 mile chase today and has the stamina to beat china Rock over 3 miles. I think they missed a trick not sending him to Kempton on Boxing day.
December 16, 2010 at 00:31 #332832I thought MD jumped and travelled with real verve, but it remains to be seen how the fall will affect him; I think it’s his first. Imperial Call was nver the same after his fall.
If he does get over it, the sky is the limitDecember 16, 2010 at 04:54 #332853

Tell you what. When Ruby said he was an aeroplane he wasn’t joking.
If you took him out of the race the pace would have been considered pretty Ok.
He’s travelling with such ease I thought he was going to run right over the top of those in front.
Casting my mind back to the race he won at Cheltenham he went through that tight gap without as much as batting an eyelid he looks a very relaxed charachter and I doubt if that fall will bother him in the slightest.
If ever a horse needed a strong gallop it’s him. He was never really on an even keel at anytime””””looked like the engine was overreving and the someone had forgotten to release the handbrake.
Can’t see him going anywhere than right to the top.
Smashing horse!.

I agree with this.
Mikael D’Hagenet is a very fast horse, he has a lot of pace, so many gears.
Stick him in the Arkle, he will bolt up.

Obviously it depends on how he comes on but I would disagree strongly with running him in the Arkle.
If he’s as good as a lot of people think he’ll be a Gold Cup horse next year and unless you think he’s Kauto Star mkII it’s not the way to go.
Ok he could win a 2 mile chase but for what? I know I said he needs a strong gallop but no sense in confusing the horse he’s got to learn his trade at 3 mile pace not go at a million miles an hour in the Arkle then expect him to take a direct jump up to 3 miles next season and start learning again.
Possibly Kauto Star will be retired after next years King George if not before and it’s way too close to next year Gold Cup to be messing MD’H about if that where his destiny lies.
December 30, 2010 at 17:15 #334302Just like when Cooldine and Forpadytheplasterer filled the first two places in the Dr.PJ.Moriarty Chase a couple of years ago, I think there’s a chance we’ve seen the Arkle and RSA winner in this race.
Jessie’s Dream has always been held in high regard and, given the fact that he’ll improve for the step up in trip and better ground, will give Time For Rupert plenty to think about.
Today I was very impressed with Realt Dubh, that was the best performance by an Irish 2 mile novice chaser so far this year imo. Obviously if Willie can get Mikael D’Haguenet back to 100% he’ll play a big part in either race. He looked to have Jessie’s Dream’s goose cooked the last day but I guess we’ll never know.
The English novices don’t look anything special to me and the difference in price between Time For Rupert and Jeesie’s Dream in particular is quite baffling. 7/2 and 14/1

SSSSSHHHHHH!Keep it quiet, ive been backing jessie this months, only little fivers and tenners e/w every few weeks at as high as 25/1 but will work out nice if he pulls it off on the day! The longer they keep him at a big price the better

Why? Time For Rupert was miles better than Jessies Dream over hurdles and there is no reason to suggest he has regressed over fences. He is also a horse who loves Cheltenham – how many times has Jessies Dream won there? – and he is a horse who just keeps finding rather than looking flashy. The Irish novices are not special and the disparity in price is pretty easy to understand – as I said earlier only wish I had taken the 12/1.
December 30, 2010 at 20:08 #334332Miles better over hurdles? Whats that based on?!
Jessies Dream had only two runs over the smaller obstacles, winning a maiden hurdle with the minimum of fuss and then beat the 149 rated Noble Prince easily. I know Time For Rupert was 2nd in the World Hurdle but there was shag-all in behind him.
The point about the track is valid but you have to take the chance on a lot of horses going to Cheltenham for the first time. Obviously Time For Rupert handles the track so thats a positive for him. He does set the standard. Jessies Dream could well improve for the conditions, with 3 miles and the likely better ground in his favour.
The Irish novices may not look anything hectic in your eyes, but Chicago Grey chased him home last time and I reckon Elliot rates Jessies Dream as vastly superior.
Time For Rupert is quite rightly the favourite, but the disparity in price between the two horses is more than it should be.

He does!He thinks jessies dream is far and away his best horse-he thinks jessies an absolute machine and can go on to be anything so………
