Presume the Hilary Needler decision is based on the same rules as everywhere else.
May be sad Beveley has lost its Listed race, but it is not an arbitrary decision. All Listed races need to attract Listed level horses to remain Listed… And that should be the same with the Hilary Needler / North as it is with any Southern race. Otherwise the Pattern means nothing. As I understand it the average winners and placed ratings must be maintained to keep pattern status.Value Is EverythingNovember 7, 2021 at 22:24 #1566797Still got the Bullet, until they move that to Ascot.

November 7, 2021 at 22:54 #1566800If Beverley races improved the quality it would have Group races.
If Ascot races lost the quality it would lose the pattern level it has.Value Is EverythingNovember 8, 2021 at 07:37 #1566826Yes Ginge, its as simple as that.

November 8, 2021 at 10:06 #1566833It is disappointing a race with past winners like Attraction and Devon Ditty can’t hold a place in the Pattern.
But I don’t think it was Listed back when Devon Ditty won it tbh.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 8, 2021 at 10:30 #1566834Off topic – and an unpopular view; all categories have the same number of Gp1 races…..
November 8, 2021 at 12:38 #1566859No issue, GT. Your points are well taken, and clearly understood.
My main point is that by adding more BC races created new opportunities for smaller yards to run for big purses. For instance, I don’t feel that Glass Slippers would have been entered in the 6F dirt sprint to take on top American dirt sprinters. I like her, she’s good but, let’s face it, she’s no Dayjur. Instead, she got an opportunity to compete in the recently added 5F Turf sprint, won, and connections got a nice purse. I think it’s a win-win on all sides…
November 8, 2021 at 15:32 #1566875I do enjoy the breeders cup and thought Saturday was an excellent days racing
Golden Pal put in a brilliant sprinting performance
Buick/Appleby again showed how deadly a combination they are, William rarely picks the wrong one of the stables horses.
The Del Mar turf track isn’t exactly ideal though being so incredibly tight and the short straight
It wouldve been dissapointing had yibir not got up on the line for instance when he was by some considerable distance the best horse on the day
The one thing I always enjoy is listening to Larry collmus on commentary
And the quality of the broadcasting and production on the US coverage is absolutely miles better than over here
November 8, 2021 at 17:26 #1566885Without taking this thread too far off topic, take a look at the subsequent performances of some of the winners of the Hilary Needler Trophy after it was awarded Listed Status. As far as I can see it was a Class C conditions race until 1994 when it was upgraded to Class B and then again upgraded to Listed in 2001 following the Group/Listed wins of 1996/1998/2000 winners Dance Parade, Flanders and Freefouracing.
Attraction, brilliant though she was, was atypical of the race winners. The other successful fillies during the period 2001=2010 (the last time it was run as a Listed Race) didn’t win a single race in pattern company afterwards and some didn’t win another race of any kind. (Good Girl, On The Brink, Miss Meggy, Clare Hills, Roxana, Loch Jipp, Knavesmire, Don’t Tell Mary, Geesala being the horses in question).
November 8, 2021 at 18:12 #1566889Yes Ginge, its as simple as that.
Yep.
Please explain the logic in your conspiracy theory, TTC.
Why should the Hilary Needler have kept its Listed status?
If the South has it in for the North, then explain which horses ran up to Listed winning ratings and which ran to Listed place standard in the years running up to it losing that status…If you can do that to my satisfaction I’ll change my mind.
Value Is EverythingNovember 8, 2021 at 19:03 #1566895If it was as cut and dried and from the rulebook as you suggest GT, than Group races would not just be plucked from thin air and given to Ascot. You are a blinkered fool sometimes.

November 8, 2021 at 19:21 #1566896How did the placed horses do, Salut?
I believe when status of races are being considered what ratings placed horses achieve in the Needler are just as important as what the winners achieve in it.
Horses naturally / usually improve through their two year old season. Therefore, although ratings achieved after the Needler can give some indication of how good the race was; only if the rating makes sense with those horses finishing around her in the Needler.

FF, you recall that was your suggestion for the Jockey Club Derby Invitation at Belmont back in September. Good handicapping…
November 9, 2021 at 16:11 #1566977Champions Day?
That’s a different scenario isn’t it? That’s moving races from one course to another (which I am not in favour of) not downgrading the status of a race because the winner/placed horses are not up to that level.
How did the placed horses do, Salut?
Mostly ended up plying their trade in 0-70 Handicaps I should think. Will have a look later and confirm the actual answer in due course
November 9, 2021 at 22:09 #1567003Really enjoyed the Breeders Cup this year and managed a few decent winners with Modern Games on Friday, Loves Only You ,Yibir the fantastic Space Blues and Knicks Go.
Well done Final Furlong with your brilliant price for Golden Pal.
Glass Slippers not the Force of old but still remember her fantastic win last year, she will produce some speedy little foals over the years to come. The meeting was packed full of drama with Albahr going down in the stalls and Frankie being saved from serious injury b¹y a brave stallhandler and then on Saturday it looked like Master Of The Seas was going to repeat the performance but thankfully he was quickly released from the stalls and withdrawn immediately as he had clearly banged his head. Thankfully no horses were injured as far as I know.
Knicks Go’s win was worth waiting up for and I thought the, ITV coverage very well done apart from didn’t see the point of what Luke Harvey was trying to achieve.
Loved the interviews with the Pony riders after some of the races and all in all can’t wait for the next one a great end to our flat season and so much to look forward too next season with Appleby team in top form. Jac
