As Troy would say:
“World Championship; my arse”.
Value Is EverythingNovember 6, 2021 at 10:26 #1566516I’m not sure I care about it as such
but its not a bad event and a million times better than the Sugar cup and team racing events on Thursday nightBlackbeard to conquer the World
November 6, 2021 at 10:29 #1566517Not only about the drugs the US authorities officially allow.
It’s also about what they do to those breaking even USA rules.
Winning trainers yesterday, Ward, Assmussen, Baffert – all serial (USA rules) drug offenders. How can there be any confidence in the fairness of these races?
Therefore gets no interest from me.Value Is EverythingNovember 6, 2021 at 11:53 #1566530I love the Breeders Cup. Goes back to watching it at a friends house and seeing Royal Academy win.Still vivid in my memory. Then read about Easy Goer and Sunday Silence which made me even more interested in American racing, especially as I’ve looked out for Sunday Silences progeny over the years.Went to a NH preview meeting a few years ago and spent ages chatting to Nick Luck who’d just got back from America and we both eulogised about Zenyatta. When it was no longer televised I used to drive round various pubs hoping that they would show it on their tv screens. Sometimes I struck lucky but usually I didn’t get to see it. In recent years I’ve been able to at least listen to it on racing radio. Also used to follow the exploits of the ground breaking Running Stag because it was a friend who had the bright idea of campaigning him in America. The rest, as they say, is history!
November 6, 2021 at 14:52 #1566596Never been that bothered with the meeting but Dayjur hurdling a shadow is an enduring memory
November 6, 2021 at 15:51 #1566605I just hate American racing even if there are UK runners. I will not have it on.
November 6, 2021 at 15:57 #1566606I actually quite liked it when Ch4 covered in in the late 80s/early 90s. Not too many races, and all proper championship races. Now there’s almost a race for each sex, and distance. Far too watered down.
And the drug issue in US racing can’t be glossed over – with racing’s version of Valverde still churning out the winners. Finally I agree with ‘betlarge’ – the Breeders Cup/Melbourne Cup are bigger with the racing media, than the people who follow the sport. It’s almost as if they’re trying to educate us that international flat racing is more important than the jumping we’re more interested about at this time of year. The Haldon Gold Cup didn’t get much coverage.
November 6, 2021 at 17:25 #1566620So many great memories from this event over the years. Hard to believe the Dayjur one and Lester’s comeback was on the same card.
November 6, 2021 at 18:45 #1566626“You mean you are not interested in the Filly and Mare Turf Sprint, TTC?! Have a word with yourself!! ;-)”
I’m just a dinasaur CAS. Talks are at a late stage for a new event starting next year. It will be limited to Filly and Mares, over 9.34f on Turf, horses with names beginning with ‘S’ and have above average ear length (‘standard’ length of lugs to be determined).
Market research has proven that the demand is there for this. Cheltenham Festival race planners are watching proceedings with great interest.

November 6, 2021 at 19:05 #1566631Nice one TTC.
I was going to suggest having a Grey Horses Classic, like the race on the July Course. But your suggestion is far better.
Nine Grade 1s on one card. Is that really credible? Are all these horses genuinely top class?
Hasn’t Group/Grade 1 become a devalued currency? There are far more than when I first started watching racing and I cannot believe there are more top class horses around.
But as someone posted earlier, Nick Luck and Rishi Persad are having a nice jolly in California. So that’s all right then.

Definitely CAS. People above (correcctly, as I do myself) remember fondly iconic moments like Royal Academy winning the mile and Dayjur jumping a shadow to throw away the Sprint. These days both would probably run in the turf sprint!
Arazi was another golden BC moment. Would not run in that race these days. The meeting been diluted and completely ruined. They have done an even worse job than the greedy Cheltenham planners, which is quite the achievement.

November 6, 2021 at 20:09 #1566642Agree TTC. They are all great memories. The meeting was far better in those days. Arazi being the absolute highlight.
Compare it with tonight. The first race was a 5 runner sprint for fillies and mares with a 2-5 favourite turned over. Is the winner really Grade 1 quality? I doubt it.
November 6, 2021 at 20:17 #1566644The Filly & Mare Dirt Sprint! Seriously who in gods name thought all these stupid races were a good idea? Its absolutely laughable.

November 6, 2021 at 20:23 #1566645Just googled the sponsors of the dirt mile. Disappointingly, it’s just a company that makes fans.
Thought it might be something else.

I was somewhat intruiged, but am on my Company laptop so I thought it wiser not to google it. Thanks for confirming. Indeed, a trifle dissapointing. Who knew the Kardishians were in to Fan supply.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 6, 2021 at 20:39 #1566648Would have been nice to see Golden Pal in the proper Sprint, and Life Is Good in the Classic or proper Mile. I am well aware I am a miserable nostalgic tw@.
