This race means that IMO the Guineas is completely between Steinbeck and Kingsfort.
October 17, 2009 at 18:00 #253880The good thing is that Xtension ran well……
At Least Canford Cliffs and Arcano look like there are the real deal even if i don’t think Canford will be much of a 3yr old.
The hopes rest on Arcano in the Guineas.
The Racing post will tell us more next Weekend. Really looking foward to Al Zir vs St Nicholas Abbey.
Bound to be a cracker

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss some of those behind, it was simply another unfathomable end of season result at Newmarket (there have been more than a couple in the last few weeks).
October 17, 2009 at 18:06 #253882Yh you could be right Equitrack…
Some really poor performances in behind…Silver Grecian lost all hope at the start can forgive him.
Dick Turpin

I most want to be with Steinbeck out of this race. Lack of experience told the story today. He has more to give.
October 17, 2009 at 19:47 #253922It seemed in the two group 1s at any rate that the horses coming late and wide had an advantage. Steinbeck was on the rail with nothing to race against. I’d say he just got tired in the end, he’s the one to take out of it.
October 17, 2009 at 20:20 #253935Don’t write off Chabal, stable in awful form.
Steinbeck did well for such an inexperienced colt. Against the rail, agree did not look the place to be.
Xtension ran well enough, though gives a boost to Coventry conqueror Canford Cliffs. And subsequantly Arcano and the french filly.
Silver Grecian was slowly away, run can be ignored. But can see others improving past him.Though there is no way of getting away from it, the form is not great for a Dewhurst.

We said the same last year, Mark, and look how that worked out – Delegator and Rip Van Winkle weren’t even placed.
October 17, 2009 at 21:54 #253956I can’t remember ever seeing an O’Brien horse in blinkers before.
October 17, 2009 at 22:14 #253962Knew you would say that Zark, and I can’t disagree with you there. So which juvenile is the best we’ve seen this season??
Siyouni ?
October 17, 2009 at 22:35 #253964Steinbeck would appear to be the one to take out of it as everyone is saying, but hes hardly going to be great value is he?
It wasnt a good dewhurst was it? Blinkers or not, that horse shouldnt really be beating supposedly future star stablemates
Dick Turpin is just another example of early Hannon two year old that will not go further. I have no problem with that at all. Its his arena and he does bloody well with it, but its always on the cards isnt it?

Knew you would say that Zark, and I can’t disagree with you there. So which juvenile is the best we’ve seen this season??
Siyouni ?
Who?
Brian Meehan and Richard Hannon will be shaking in their boots watching that lot….Not!
Xtension’s run today and Special Duty’s win in the Chevely Park point in one direction…straight towards Canford Cliffs and of course Arcano.
Hughsie maintains Canford Cliffs wasn’t himself in France and if he’s right I think he’s a stonewall certainty for the Guineas…….if He can finish that close to that pair when he’s not 100%, gawd only knows what he’ll do to them and the rest when he’s right.
The AP fav Arcano would have to be the choice if Canford Cliffs didn’t get the trip. Like Richard Hannon, Brian Meehan put him away for the season to give him that bit extra time to develop.
I couldn’t have Kinsfort despite he beat Beethoven, that was on soft/Heavy ground and the horse clearly hates the surface. Chabal who was 2nd is also a soft ground horse by the looks of it so the form really doesn’t add up to much.
Awzaan looks a nice horse as does Radiohead who he beat last time but I think they’re a bit below top class.
In short without a shdow of a doubt Canford Cliffs. His performace at Ascot was the most exciting thing I’ve seen in years. Even in defeat he looked pure class and I can’t wait to see how he trains on. I doubt if we’ve seen the best of him yet.

Canford Cliffs’ Ascot effort was akin to Three Valleys’ Coventry demolition and is by no means an accurate guide as to his future aspirations.
Arcano is a stand-out for the 2000 Guineas now, with the step up in trip only likely to bring about more improvement. I don’t think Dick Turpin is finished with – Hannon may just have run him too often – but I’m a lot less confident about him than I was.
October 18, 2009 at 02:22 #254010Why is nobody mentioning Fencing Master….I thought he ran the Greatest race i have ever seen.
He was tailed off after 2f and being pushed along and still finished 2nd and a unlucky loser. I think he could be a Giant’s Causeway type for next year…looks to be made of the right stuff. He excites me big time after that run.
Coolmore’s must be delighted that they both first season sires have produced Group 1 Animals and classic contenders.
October 18, 2009 at 08:46 #254036"Well there you go, total bunch of crap." Zarkava your listing against Coolmore hardly warrants a professional comment. However since I am not a professional commentator I might point out that to ignore the result just because Coolmore were first and second does you no credit at all.Zarkava you are better than that.Redeem yourself.
October 18, 2009 at 14:04 #254067I only saw the race on Ch 4 and didn’t get a chance to re watch it; which was the Ballydoyle horse in the purple colours that was cruising along very comfortably on the outside throughout the race but didn’t quite get up to win?
October 18, 2009 at 15:16 #254076I still would think Canford Cliffs and Arcano are better targeted for G1 sprints rather than the Classic prizes, Tagula lines dont boom out Classic winners and Canford Cliffs was foudnd to have nothing wrong with him at all and the form was pretty strong so I’d say he came up against better horses that day and the Coventry points out to me he would do well at all the big sprints.
