Whats your rating?
BUY THE SUN
December 27, 2020 at 19:35 #1515529Had I been able to read? Seems a tad narky Cap’n, although I remain intrigued that that was the sole line you could take out of the entire response.
December 27, 2020 at 19:36 #1515530So explain why Henderson retired Sprinter Sacre off the back of a perfect season where he won 2 grade 2’s and 2 grade 1’s and was 1 year younger than Altior.
He will be retired you wait and see. Come back and apologise when you are proven wrong.
December 27, 2020 at 19:37 #1515531Would that be aimed at me Tatling – and presumably of Altior?
December 27, 2020 at 19:42 #1515533Robbo I feel you’ve got lost within this conversation. I don’t feel he will be retired unless an underlying condition is discovered, although I will not be apologising to you or anyone if he is.
The debate that’s arisen has been your opinions and reasonings surrounding the whole saga, which all seem to be absolute pie in the sky.
December 27, 2020 at 19:54 #1515535Crumbs! Hats off to whoever asked about ratings, always sure to get the juices flowing!
Robbo (I know someone else nicknamed Robbo, he often gets aggressive whenever someone disagrees with him, perhaps you’re related or one and the same), I think unfortunately you have misunderstood a lot of what I wrote. The whole point of my post was that conclusions being drawn about the scale of Altior’s decline, might be premature. So I’m not jumping to any conclusions based on the clock, merely offering it as one piece of evidence amongst the many available and open to different interpretations. My reference to Shishkin was tongue-in-cheek and another to the tendancy of folks to race to an opinion about a horse. He’s clearly good and with huge potential, but how good…no-one knows yet – my point exactly.
I don’t need to share an opinion pre-race in order to do so after it. I’ve limited time available for engaging on forums, but like to do so when I can. If you wish to disregard my views on this basis of course you are welcome to. Here you seem to have responded to them and then dismissed them!

In short, I think Altior is probably not as good as he was but almost certainly still better then ‘low-150s’. That’s all I was trying to say and I am sorry if you are in any way offended by that.
Onto a more positive though, doesn’t Skelton have an exciting group of young chasers?!
December 27, 2020 at 19:56 #1515536Id be surprised if altior ran to 160+ today
He didnt pick up at all
And wasnt just being niggled along like he used to
Nico went for him properly miles out with no response
December 27, 2020 at 20:00 #1515537Skelton has a lot of exciting young horses full stop. Throw in Third Time Lucki yesterday along with My Drogo the other week and the future’s certainly bright there
December 27, 2020 at 20:06 #1515538I don’t understand where these ratings are coming from. It’s like people are looking at it saying ‘daaah I don’t Altior was good today. Let’s say he bad and make low numbers up’
December 27, 2020 at 20:13 #1515540I appear to be one of the only ones to make a serious attempt at rating the race, yet not one of you have made any comment on the marks I suggested, but continue to argue trivial points amongst yourselves
December 27, 2020 at 20:17 #1515542I think both the king George and the desert orchid had raised more questions than answers
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 27, 2020 at 20:22 #1515544Wexfordman, I’d take it as something of a compliment to their accuracy that no-one has directly disagreed with your ratings in roughly a page and a half of debate!

I hope you can read my friend. My comment right under yours tells you my view of the race.
By the way, why are people so obsessed with Duc De Genievres being such a reliable yardstick? What race outside novice company makes him so reliable and why can’t people accept that everything that came over from Ireland has ran about 10-20 lbs below its best? Look at the Sullivan Bloodstock horses for instance, this one could become the next Laurina.
December 27, 2020 at 20:24 #1515546Sorry Wex, I was unaware of your need to be acknowledged, although had you read the comments fully you would have noticed that I did indeed state that, using Duc Des Genievres as a basic stick, I had Altior at 168 or thereabouts. It wouldn’t be higher but I wouldn’t say personally he ran any lower than 166.
December 27, 2020 at 20:26 #1515547I think both the king George and the desert orchid had raised more questions than answers
I thought the King George was full of non-stayers, underperformers and rather a Ryanair trial.
December 27, 2020 at 20:28 #1515548I wasn’t offended Coney and I don’t believe I was aggressive. Just engaging in a healthy debate in my mind and I will always have my opinions and others will always have their opinions which is how it should be.
Wexford I think it’s very hard to accurately gauge ratings off the back of today’s race for a number of reasons. We will all learn more when Nuba Negra runs again but off the back of today’s performance he looks a decent 6yo who is improving and is potentially a good horse though he will need to back up today’s performance. He impressed me today though for sure. Do I think he is rated 170+? I would say probably not though time will tell and he could turn out to be.
December 27, 2020 at 20:29 #1515549Sorry Wex, I was unaware of your need to be acknowledged, although had you read the comments fully you would have noticed that I did indeed state that, using Duc Des Genievres as a basic stick, I had Altior at 168 or thereabouts. After Kauto Star won his first Tingle Creek he was raised to 167. That day he would have easily finished 10 lengths ahead of today’s Altior.
