Only four career starts since November 2021, you might wonder how long they’ll keep him in training.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – Desert Crown is the Darren “sicknote” Anderton of racing and anyone who backs him for anything ante-post wants sectioning.

He’s the horse with the most headlines after almost any sort of workout. Connections make sure Ryan rides him everytime and anything he tells the press is RP front page material. Sadly, this injury seems to be a more serious one. I hope he can recover for stud duties.

Assuming it is not a life threatening injury, surely it is now time to pull up stumps with him – he is either turned extremely injury prone as he gets older or he has an inherent physical weakness.

It make you wonder now just how they managed to get him to the course as a 3 yr old to win the Derby – not sure these injury issues will install a lot of confidence for breeders to use him though.

Hope vets can sort him, for retirement. Stud duties agree LD73

This is probably career ending. Hopefully nothing worse.

Must admit to never having liked the horse. Give me a Paddington any day

To be fair to the horse, his own physical frailty has meant that he hasn’t really had a chance to win over fans after winning the Derby.

Sadly he will now be more known for his consistent ability to pick up an injury before multiple races he was due to run in.

He’s having surgery for a fetlock injury. Doesn’t say the extent of it but I doubt he will be on the track again.

The more I know the less I understand.

He’ll make a lovely gelding. No need for such a fragile horse to reproduce.

I said exactly that on another racing forum. Why let him reproduce his unsoundness? The TB has enough to deal with without adding his poor genes to the pool.

    The injury is a fracture.

Why on Earth would anyone geld a Derby and Dante winner who is never going to race again?

If Blackbeard and Little Big Bear can go to stud, then so can Desert Crown.

That said, I won’t be sending any of my mares to any of the trio.

(“Err, you don’t have any mares, Ian”).

    Hush!

It is a pity because he did look good when he won the Derby, even with a slightly iffy ride from Kingscote. Westover has not harmed the form since.

I’m just stating what I wish would happen. He’ll probably get 200 mares his first season anyway.
