I think i’ll have to close my 53pts on Linda’s Lad.
Lay Lindas Lad for 53pts @17.
I think that closes my book.

June 4, 2006 at 22:16 #85178If it’s Ok with everyone I’ll post a result for this competition at some appropriate point.
August 20, 2006 at 14:12 #85179Sorry people – with all the recent stuff I’d clean forgot about this – give me a day or two and I’ll tidy it all up.
August 20, 2006 at 15:39 #85180OK Guys – here is the final result – sorry it’s taken aeons to finalise –
1st – Steve DG +1362.5 pts
Steve won at the last gasp in the final minutes of trading when a spectacular 80 point trade on Sixties Icon at huge odds went his way and he managed to close out for a massive potential profit (800 pts!!). Steve’s other ‘big’ trade was a potential 564 pt profit on Septimus (backed @ 25 and laid @ 6.2). He had 4 horses running for him in the race, three of whom would have yielded a trading profit and one (Visindar) who’d have taken out 5.5 pts.
2. Cormack15 + 588 pts
My main winners were Linda’s Lad and Sir Percy who were positive in my book for 445 and 198 pts respectively. Failure to lay Dylan Thomas and Chamopionship Point cost me a few points but, in the end, was well short of Steve’s total.
3. Racing Daily + 465.5 pts
Septimus, Linda’s Lad and Championship Point were the key horses for RD and he had a very well balanced book in the end with only a small loss on the non-runner Red Gala spoiling an ‘all green’ display.
4. Adrian +289 pts
Sir Percy and Best Alibi were the two horses who boosted Adrian’s bank (to the tune of 124 and 230 pts respectively). Quite a few non-runners and a small loss on Snoqualmie Boy spoiled it for Adrian but, in the actual event, he’d have made a good profit from his positive position on Sir Percy.
These were the only players to return a positive score. Of the others Irsheyez suffered as all of his original 6 trades were non-runners, Flatseasonlover was in a similar position and didn’t close out the two potentially profitable trades he had. Librettist and Johnny B both failed to close any of their trades.
An interesting idea but a few flaws as a competition (as you’ll have gathered by the number of times I had to clarify the rules!
Quite intriguing though to see that it’s not that hugely difficult to build up a reasonably significant portfolio in a race like the Derby where there is a decent amount of time and market fluctuation to allow some dynamic trading.
August 20, 2006 at 16:03 #85181This was fun. Thanks for running it.
What about an Arc version Corm? Or even a long term Grand National or Cheltenham 2007 one?
August 20, 2006 at 16:06 #85182Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Actually, I think Corm was the moral winner on this one.
I was well beaten before I decided to take advantage of a flaw in the rules and do a last minute trade on one of the rags.
If there’s to be another ante-post trading game, I think there needs to be a rule to prevent such despicable opportunism.
However, there wasn’t a rule this time .. so … bow down before your champion!
