When Fame and Glory wins on saturday a lot of RIP backers are going to look at best sheep, at worst plain mug punters.
And if RIP finishes in front of FoG where, exactly, does that leave you?
June 3, 2009 at 03:10 #231679Bookies are a disgrace aren’t they. Rip Van Winkle cut into 7/2 now. He’d already had his odds slashed on the back of the rumour that Murtagh would ride him now he’s been slashed again. This horse is nothing less than a 10/1 shot for the Derby on form anyone that backs him at current prices must be gone in the head.
On the plus side it means Fame And Glory is out to 4/1 now, fantastic price.
June 3, 2009 at 11:35 #231690Well i nearly choked on my Sugar puffs this morning, all this nonsense about Johnny riding "Fame", Fist, i was shocked when you said Johnny would ride RVW in the 2000gns, knowing how Brilliant the Mastercraftsman is,so i was amazed when you thought he would desert him in the Derby! So what its no big deal! Richard Hughes on Masterofthehouse?? Oh dear! Ryan on Black Bear, Fantastic booking!
Johnny on Rip van, well i will be the one to look stupid if he wins now but at least i had the Foresight to snaffle the 3/1, some got bloody 5/1 about him riding The Winkle, that will soften the blow! Fame and Glory NO CHANCE!June 3, 2009 at 12:33 #231697I have backed age of aquariius e/w, i think he’s definitely gonna stay the trip and Pat Smullen is a very good jockey booking only worry id have would be if he’ll take the turn for home well but at 25/1 at the minute you cant go toofar wrong,id say he’ll be about 16’s come the day.As for Murtagh on RVW he said in an interview on Irish t.v a few weeks ago that he might let his heart rule his head and go for rvw rather than fag,i think he has chosen him because he has a soft spot for the horse and not becuse he thinks he’s better than f,a,g

I’ve never understood the tendency to complain about bookmakers odds. Thanks to Betfair, you now have 3 choices when confronted with odds for a horse- you can back it, lay it or leave it alone. if you have a strong opinion about a price being too short, lay it and stop moaning. If you trot out the usual "I don’t lay horses" line it means you don’t trust your opinion, so why inflict it on others?

Its not a case of not trusting my opinion I just simply do not lay horses because thats not what I do. I aim to make a profit by backing horses to win races not lose them. I don’t bet each way either nor forecasts its generally win singles or if circumstances permit I’ll double or treble bets. It is how I work best. I don’t see the point in doing something I’m not familiar with just to prove a point. It goes against the way I work.
My bookies comment wasn’t really meant as a moan jmore a general observation though I do think its verging on unfair to punters but of course no one forces any punter to back any horse.
June 3, 2009 at 15:34 #231736Twice, if I remember correctly, last year Murtagh let his heart decide what he would ride and each time he was wrong. He got off Henry and Frozen Fire to follow his heart;one in the BC Classic the other in the Arc,.Both horses finished ahead of his choice.

Good call, was a very strange call when he deserted Henrythenavigator, especially with how tired The Duke looked in the Arc.
June 3, 2009 at 16:01 #231745Crowded House runs.
June 3, 2009 at 23:42 #231807Backed Crowded House at 33/1 e/w. I’m sure with all the expert views are correct and will prove me wrong, but hey that’s why I’m still learning. I just wonder if CH had not run in the Dante how views may have been different. I am the eternal optimist I suppose.

I apologise. This is the second time I have submitted a response without checking the syntax
June 4, 2009 at 00:34 #231823This will cause a few fisticuffs.

Gerald, You should be banned for trying to incite a riot!
June 4, 2009 at 01:07 #231825Maybe. I need to get a life, instead of always having the Forum on, and constantly looking at the latest changes, if any, in the betfair GN market.
What did people make of Magnier’s comments a couple of days ago that Masterofthehorse had put in a good piece of work last week?
June 4, 2009 at 01:18 #231830Your life sounds as exciting as mine, Gerald, the only difference tonight being that as well as checking oddschecker every 5 minutes I’ve unblocked a drain [yuk]. As most of my ante post bets don’t seem to be running I’m getting desperate. Crowded House seems a huge price for a horse that was the second coming a few weeks ago.

Gerald, when a race is showing the fav at 36/1 even TAPK would struggle to find the winner! Concentrate on finding the Wokingham winner, the Golden Jubilee winner and the Kings Stand winner! You do fancy yourself as a bit of a "Sprint King" now get studying!

Call me controversial but reading between the lines I interpret these comments as tending to suggest on balance and all things considered that Masterofthehorse worked well last week.
