Deauville is the place to be on sunday if Group racing is your thing!!
Going looks like being Good-soft!
15 Furlongs (3000 metres), my price guide in Brackets (Decimal)
COASTAL PATH (1,9) : Lightly raced 4-y-o who has won 6 from 7, the only time he got turned over was by YEATS and GOERDILAND in the Ascot Gold cup ( 4000m), he didn`t do himself much justice in that race as he raced too free, back on home territory he should give his true running, whilst i wouldn`t rate him as Bombproof i would suggest he`s the one to beat…..If you are looking for a negative, stable form is a bit “in and out“!
FINALMENTE (41,0) Flattered on his seasonal, gone downhill since, would be a shock if he took the honours
MAD RUSH (6,0) Btn off a mark of 97 before bolting up off a mark of 102, he certainly looks progressive and theirs enough reason to think stepping upto this trip will suit, he certainly deserves plenty of respect ,however, lets keep things in perspective,he`s not proven at this level thus i would need a decent price to cover that uncertainty!
CARDILLO (26,0) Ran a decent 2nd at Longchamp ,however, it was a much weaker race than this, in 6 attemts he`s never won in France!
LIMATUS (41,0) Has done well to win a couple of listed races, he`s 7 and this is a differant league, i can`t see it!
GREEN TANGO (251,0) Good h`capper on his day, not upto this class!!
ROYAL AND REGAL(3,75) right down his street, 3000m around Deauville is what the Doctor ordered, returning to the track after 87 days off isn`t a concern, h`cap mark in France is 50,5 this is slightly lower than his BHB rating of 116, in receipt of a kilo from the Jolly he as 0.5 kilos to find on French ratings , he should put up a good fight!
HI CALYPSO (21,0) Beaten long last twice, would be bigger than 20`s if it was trained by someone else!
PONTE TRESE (26,0) Very reliable at the right level, top 5 finish awaits but can`t see him upsetting the big two!
VAREEVES (21,0) Would be thereabouts on last years form, however, doesn`t appear to be in the same form this time around!!
Conclusion
I can`t see beyond COASTAL PATH and ROYAL AND REGAL,
2.5 points each way ROYAL AND REGAL !!
August 23, 2008 at 21:22 #177861Looking forward to seeing Coastal Path back in action. Looked a really talented stayer on the up before Ascot and clearly didn’t get home there.
August 24, 2008 at 00:22 #177889Coastal Path for me. All his form is at the distance of 1m7f and at the time of the Ascot Gold Cup there were discussions about whether he would get the extra 4 furlongs.
6 wins out of 6 at 1m7f is good enough for me and a price of 11/8 sounds reasonably backable.
I’m very tempted to take Mad Rush too in a SF.
The price of 8/1 looks too big too me considering Cumani has opted for this run rather than the Newburgh a few days ago. Luca’s been entering him in the bigger races all season (Goodwood Cup anyone?) and then taking them out at the final moment so he obviously sees this horse as a pattern race horse.
However, I still cant see Mad Rush beating Coastal Path.
Straight forecast for me
August 24, 2008 at 08:05 #177927Halfwaytoheaven,
Where did you get those prices?
Coastal will almost certainly start under even money on both the PMU and with the UK Bookies!
August 24, 2008 at 11:49 #177956Hi Tony,
Sorry – that was the forecast price. I see Coastal Path is 8/11 at current odds
August 24, 2008 at 19:15 #178013Well! I expected Mad Rush to do well but didnt think Mad Rush would be that close.
Royal and Regal possibly needed another run prior to this. The last run 80 or so days ago was a reasonably poor race in my opinion but I’ve still got hopes that Royal and Regal will bounce back.
I skipped any punting on this one as it did seem cut and dry for Coastal Path and am quite suprised to see Coastal Path finish 3rd!
