“If the Haggas horse runs to its 87 rating”

The Haggas horse has an OR of 73 and an RPR of 78. The 87 to which I assume you refer is the weight-adjusted RPR.

Today was about teaching him to settle and quicken. He did both, although he needed a couple of reminders to put the race to bed.

I’d imagine they’ll put him away for the winter now; I’d bring him back in the John Porter at Newbury if he were mine.

I checked oddschecker for derby odds before the race but couldn’t see any bookies offering a price

    You and me both, Ben.

“I’d bring him back in the John Porter at Newbury if he were mine.”

It’s a perennial outright tragedy that Gladders isn’t a member of the old aristocracy – he’d probably have had Classic single-colour silks and had his horses in training with Dick Hern.

A pleasing campaign route for his tremendous late developer.

Haha we are as bad each other! Good thing there weren’t any firms offering a price as I would 100% would have backed him for the derby if Id seen 40/1 on offer!

Returns in the 3.10 at Goodwood today. Interesting that he’s stepping up in trip, as well as going down the handicap route.

Still very green at times in the race and clearly has his issue considering only his 3rd run but the further he went the better he looked – he has a Gold Cup entry this season which I can’t believe they will really take up although I am not sure what other options outside the remaining cup races he would have without being thrown in at the deep end.

Another year on his back and you could see him running in a Yorkshire Cup and then the Henry II at Sandown before heading to a Gold Cup but this year would be a huge ask for one with so little racing experience.

I wonder if today was a reconnaissance mission for the Goodwood Cup? 🤔

To be fair with no Kyprios in the race and Emily Dickinson bombing out on her last run and Coltrane heading the betting around 3-1, the Ascot Gold Cup looks wide open this year (even Echos In Rain is quoted at single digit prices) and Courage Mon Ami’s price is between 10-1 and 20-1 so they very well could chance their arm and pitch him in.
