The ground would be a possible concern but his 5th in the Hunt Cup on Gd/Fm should be good enough to take this.
October 3, 2008 at 14:52 #183187Also meant to say that he is too short in the betting although I still think he will win.
October 3, 2008 at 15:47 #183195Think General Elliot @ 40-1 and Stubbs Art @ 14-1 have decent chances on todays conditions.
October 3, 2008 at 18:14 #183218Didn’t do anything wrong there….
Remains easily good enough to win at Group level in this country!
October 3, 2008 at 18:29 #183222The horse already has better form than a lot of Group winners – fact.
I’m not saying he pegasus or that he has represented value much this season, but he is clearly up to this grade – indeed a slightly better ride and he would have won today. Surely even someone of your intelligence can see that?
October 3, 2008 at 18:36 #183225Eagle Mountain’s seasonal debuts prior to today were both for a different trainer. One of those debuts was in the 2000 Guineas which he was hardly primed for given that he went off at 14/1 for it.
I’m not saying that Bankable is the best miler out there but he certainly has a Group race in him.
October 3, 2008 at 18:41 #183229Firefox,
I don’t think you understand pattern level racing too well if you can’t see the merit of Bankable as a Group race animal; he is, imo, Group 2 standard, and I would target him at the Lockinge, and have him primed for that.
He would have won today (I’ve seen worse Group 2’s) with a better ride, and won convincingly. Dane O’Neill will be a lucky man if Cumani lets him ride Bankable again.
Fwiw, I backed Perfect Stride and Moynahan.
October 3, 2008 at 18:44 #183230Also, this has been one of my favourite races from the past few seasons and thought today’s a strong renewal, and a great race.
October 3, 2008 at 20:15 #183242No excuses there today, Bankable was just beaten by a better horse (who few expected to be fully wound-up, I’d imagine). You don’t find many Eagle Mountains wasting their time in Group 3s, mind you, so you could possibly count Cumani’s charge a tad unlucky.
October 3, 2008 at 21:26 #183249Bankable has run up a sequence of four seconds now…and has been beaten by two G1 winners, a G2 winner (who is as close to a G1 winner as your ever likely to get, Eagle Mountain) and a G3 winner. Each time he’s taken them on at level weights, wfa, or having to carry a penalty.
You can’t continually make excuses for him, but apart from maybe Goodwood, he has been beaten by solid G1 class horses. As Friggo says, maybe he’s been a tad unlucky in who he has run into.
October 4, 2008 at 01:42 #183274I know nothing of this beast, other than what has been posted here, and unusually for a Flat thread, the raging debate has kept my interest peaked.
As an outsider with no real knowledge of the form, it seems the best that can be said about Bankable is that he/she is very hard to win with, and such a constraint should be factored into any price taken.
October 4, 2008 at 01:47 #183277I must have missed the Passage of Time debate, Firefox. It is fair to say that neither the Newbury race or the Nassau were that fast. The experts say G1 form normally stands up, & Passage of Time has a fair amount of it, that’s why I call her a genuine G1 filly:
As a 2yo, she won the G1 Grand Criterium
As a 3yo, she was G1 placed in the Prix Vermeille & the BC filly & mare turf
As a 4yo, she was G1 placed in the Nassau (this race was after she beat Bankable)The Newbury race was also one of these races with messy weights & penalties. From memory, Passage of Time got into it with no penalties and a fillies allowance, & Bankable had to carry a penalty. In any case, Bankable had to concede 8lb to Passage of Time, who imo reallly had her optimum trip/conditions that day.
October 4, 2008 at 02:15 #183281Lots of assumptions here Firefox.
Passage of Time – Hugely regressive.
Lady Gloria – Cannot have improved whatsoever.
The Select Stakes – Form is vastly over-hated due to the "Bankable Hype machine", presumably the official handicapper is a member?
Ordanance Row – A fortunate G3 winner, not a group animal
Eagle Mountain – Huge improvement to come from todays race.Unlikely all of the above can be correct. Bankable is clearly well capable of winning a Group Race, bottom line. Doesn;t mean he will do – Hawk WIng was well capable of winning a classic, still never happened.

Fair point that.
I will only back *ankable if I consider him a decent price. He is frustrating, but he can do it….c’mon *ankable, we love you!!!!

Bankable isn’t a Group horse?

Do you think Darjina is no longer a Group horse now that she is a 4yo?
October 10, 2008 at 16:14 #184216Unless you can back him after he’s won, of course.
Just saw your comment Carvills
Good idea that. Count me in if you can come up with a surefire plan.
