It’s the public that want / buy “cheap phones and TVs” Richard; hardly the fault of the West’s negotiators up in Glasgow.
Public being responsible for buying these things is precisely my point about a boycott. Boycott of high polluting countries is what Greta and Co should be asking / telling people… But all we get from them is “blah blah blah” blaming the Western nations who are trying to make a difference. Only if China feel it in their pocket will they change.
Value Is EverythingNovember 17, 2021 at 13:13 #1567891The government has done a pretty good job of stifling trade with Europe. I’m pretty sure they could do the same to China if they wanted to but that might involve taking responsibility and making unpopular decisions which they’ll never do.
Where else do you get all this stuff from anyway? We make sod all in this country any more (some cars yes but the components come from elsewhere including China no doubt).
I’m firmly of the opinion that people buy way too much stuff (new phones, cars, etc constantly when they last years) but we do still need things.
November 17, 2021 at 17:02 #1567916I agree with you there but can you blame people when the TV and radio advertisers relentlessly pursue a “buy more of our stuff or else you’ll be unhappy” agenda. Add in the toxicity of social media and it’s not hard to see why “Western Society” for want of a better description is heading rapidly towards oblivion.
