Brian O’Connor has his take on the dilemma in today’s Irish Times Horseracing section “What now for Constitution Hill?” I think the answer lies in the top photograph!
December 5, 2025 at 12:18 #1746653The more I know the less I understand.
December 6, 2025 at 18:28 #1746848I think Hendo read David Jennings’piece in the post today about saying less as Hendo said he would say no more.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 6, 2025 at 22:01 #1746861I love Nicky, but says daft things at times. ‘This will be the final statement on Constitution Hill’. No it won’t.
December 6, 2025 at 22:08 #1746863I miss the statements when Nicky would speak
the secretary would type it all out on a typewriter
Nico or someone would then take a photo of the typed paper
then the photo would get uploaded onto X
and finally be tweetedThose were the days

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.December 17, 2025 at 19:51 #1747825I get the feeling Nicky misses the 90s and early 2000s , and I don’t mean the The Spice girls and Citroen Saxos , he actually ran horses back then …

December 20, 2025 at 10:56 #1748104Noticed a few padded hurdles falling to the ground after being barely touched at Ascot yesterday, has the directive gone out to the loosen them up?
December 20, 2025 at 11:24 #1748109Horses see white as a colour of high luminescence. White it is easy for them to notice it, on the flip side, it can also disorientate them
December 20, 2025 at 13:26 #1748131They could put flashing orange beacons and sirens on the hurdles …. Hes still going to hit them

December 29, 2025 at 20:58 #1749034With Sir Gino now confirmed for the Champion Hurdle. Honestly, If I was Buckley, I’d see this as a perfect opportunity to try Cobden or Sean Bowen on Constitution Hill. Stick a set of cheekpieces on him also.
If he falls again, just call it a day but no way would I be retiring him without at least trying something different.
The Kingwell Hurdle would be a good target imo. Get Cobden or Bowen onboard plus cheekpieces and I’d bet he destroys the field.December 29, 2025 at 21:07 #1749035Three falls out of four runs , hes only a race away from a broken neck , shouldnt be near a jump imho, hes a disaster in the making . He hurts himself its over for trainer too after the hype the horse has had , the pile on will be unreal from media etc ,and I couldnt see a way back from it .
December 29, 2025 at 21:25 #1749038They never really tried much different with the horse though. Always Nico onboard and they never even tried a set of cheekpieces which have worked wonders for plenty of other horses.
How can you give up without knowing you at least tried something new before calling it a day. At 9yo, he’s far too young to be giving up.
Try something different and if it doesn’t work you can retire him knowing no stone was left unturned. Also, Nicky just needs to keep his mouth shut and stop all the hyping. No interviews and no Matt Chapman standing in the field with the horse etc. All that absolute nonsense has just made this issue almost front page news.If State Man had fallen 3 times, no way would there be this much controversy. For a start Willie would’ve tried cheekpieces or something else before he had a chance to fall 3 times but he certainly wouldn’t be drawing attention to the horse at every opportunity like Hendo has done.
El Fabiolo was a bigger danger to himself over fences than Constitution Hill over hurdles and it hardly even got a mention. Majborough is likely to kill himself soon over a fence but again, it doesn’t get much mainstream coverage.
It’s an outrage that Ahoy Senor was allowed to continue over fences for so long but nobody seemed to give a feck.December 29, 2025 at 21:46 #1749043El Fabiola still a danger to himself over jumps, and his comeback is on Wednesday, I can’t watch

At least it’s over hurdles. He’ll probably jump abominably but hopefully he’ll get over them.
