Ruby – Was only suggesting James for Jonbon, I think with CH it is most likely we will get a ‘he didn’t work quite as we wanted or know he can’ so we will give Ireland a miss and see you all at Newcastle for the Fighting Fifth.
For me, as long as the horse works fine you almost have to go to Ireland…..the unbeaten record is gone, he is not getting any younger and just maybe a different jockey on top could bring about a change in fortune as they might not be as precious about him and treat him like any other racehorse and just ride him.
April 22, 2025 at 23:37 #1728035LD, I think the horse is 100% fit. There wasn’t anything amiss with him at Aintree and I’m quite sure he has kept the form. The crucial gallop can only be a serious schooling session in the next 2-3 days, but with Nico out they’d have to do it with the jockey who’ll ride him in the race. I don’t think they know that right now and it’s easy to assume Mr. Buckley will play it safe. For whatever reasons….
The Fighting Fifth and the Christmas Hurdle will surely remain on his agenda, but will once again prove nothing. Of course, if he remains in training for the 25/26 season.
April 23, 2025 at 11:18 #1728055Mark Walsh confirmed for Jonbon:
Wonder who will get the Constitution Hill ride if he heads over to Punchestown?
April 23, 2025 at 11:25 #1728056Sensible decision by JP.
On Constitution Hill, I still think Henderson will find a reason not to go to Ireland. But it is worth remembering that Buckley has not always been an admirer of De Boinville. Might he not want to see how the horse performs with someone else on board?
April 23, 2025 at 13:11 #1728063I’d put Harry Cobden on CH if he’s available.
April 23, 2025 at 13:25 #1728064“Wonder who will get the Constitution Hill ride if he heads over to Punchestown?”
Says James Bowen in that link story.
April 23, 2025 at 13:39 #1728065That was added later, Mike; there was nobody linked when I initially posted the story. 😎
April 23, 2025 at 13:52 #1728066As Walsh is JP’s rider in Ireland the owner may have insisted he ride him as although James Bowen has ridden the horse before, it did end up with a rather poor round of jumping together with them making a catastrophic race ending mistake 4 out at Cheltenham (in the rerouted Clarence House Chase) so maybe that thought was also in playing on JP’s mind.
Fingers crossed that the CH schooling session James will be having this week with the horse goes off without a hitch as I am starting to lean towards the side of they are actually going to run in Ireland, which is the thing we all really want to see.
April 25, 2025 at 11:54 #1728226April 25, 2025 at 11:58 #1728227“He will school either tomorrow or Sunday and barring any hiccups he’ll be heading off to the Emerald Isle.”
What price he hiccups?
April 25, 2025 at 15:05 #1728247Okay, sounds a good idea with James Bowen taking over the ride. But, I’ll still wait until he comes under orders before placing a bet.
April 25, 2025 at 15:20 #1728253I’d love to see Cobden on CH. He’s tailor made for the horse imo.
April 25, 2025 at 15:28 #1728257I couldn’t back him anyway, even if he does line up. Taking a short price about a horse which has hit the deck on its last two runs and is having its first run outside of England does not appeal.
If he wins, fair play to the horse but he cannot be a value bet.
April 25, 2025 at 15:37 #1728260All 3 of CH, State Man and Lossiemouth should be running here. The fans deserve to see it. We’ve only been waiting 2 years.
April 25, 2025 at 15:55 #1728262Agree with that, GM. It would be a fantastic race to watch, a true Championship event. If CH would line up against the other two, he should be at least 7/4 or 2/1 considering the two F’s in his last two races.
April 25, 2025 at 20:15 #1728277James Bowen has ridden the horse in the past

April 25, 2025 at 21:08 #1728282I was convinced they would bottle out of it , still may do but if they can get a backbone and go run I hope CH hoses up big style , be great to see him win there .
