September 18, 2005 at 21:03 #59972As a system for selecting a top rated selection, it clearly does not preform well ( albeit a small sample )
Narrowing down the field ( on average 3 ) has produced some good priced winners so there is some potential there.
It may well be that the fault lies in the rather crude way in which current form is assesed.
Shall close this down and give the system some thought.
October 6, 2005 at 19:58 #59974Factorman
had a quick look at what you are doing here seems it has potentual are you taking the going and the distance that the horse has been winning at will put a bit more on this later but have to go now

October 9, 2005 at 21:58 #59976Hello HF,
The class willing ratings table and the form points table are the only factors being used at present.
have been reading Peter May’s book- Forecasting Methods for Horseracing with the view to assesing current form.
The system has done quite well pinpointing a small group of horses for further study and will keep things as they are for now and shall post in order of preference from the selected runners.
Shall express the selections chances odds wise in an attempt to pinpoint possible value for money.

Ionian Spring 8pts 7/2 2nd 5/1 (9/2)
Love Angel 6pts 5/1 5/1 (9/2, 11/2)
Double Vodka 5pts 6/1 3rd 4/1 (9/2)
Mintlaw 5pts 6/1 25/1 (33/1)
No bet in the race so have presented them in rating order, shall (as Standard) note down the market moves as reported by the sporting life to highlight any possible value from the race to gauge how the forecast prices are fairing.
October 10, 2005 at 23:06 #59981Have Fun,
As the top rated and being a decent price it would have been the bet from a value point of view.
But Ionian Springs didn’t have enough going for it for me to have a bet and although the race had a good shape to it there were too many if’s and but’s amongst the form horses.
Haven’t read that book by PM, shall keep a look out for it.
